He will have to compete with Landon Hood and possibly Logan Schmidt for starts. Coach Johnson talked him up last season so I think he will get an opportunity to show what he is capable of.

If you had to guess today. What role do you think he plays on next years team? With Evans, Schmidt, Moore back and Hood in. I am just curious to see what role he can step into whether that be a high leverage reliver, a griffin herring type extended reliever, or if he battles for a starting spot and pushes one of last year's starters to the pen.

I'd like to see him (and a few other guys) developed as long relievers. More than 1 inning at a time. Hopefully a few can be counted on to face 9-12 hitters if need be and stay stretched out in case a spot start opportunity comes up.
We usually stack a bunch of midweek games early allowing for extra starting opportunities. He could probably get one of those.
The tandem starter or piggyback starter is the Griffin Herring, Zac Cowan role everyone talks about. It's useful every year, it's what Casan Evans did mostly as a freshman. It can help get guys near starter type innings out of the bullpen as they develop for a bigger role the next season. It also keeps them on the mound more to help their pro prospects.

It’s not just useful, it’s extremely valuable. That flexibility. More valuable than most Sunday starters. At the peak Cowen, Herring level. You could make an argument that by the end of the season, Herring had surpassed Holman as our 2nd most valuable guy. I was SOOOOO hoping he would come back. I remember saying more than a few times in ‘25, “Man, if only Herring had come back, I think this team to could win the CWS.” lol. Guys stepped up. Won it anyway. But how good would that team have been with him? Or does his coming back eat a lot of Evans’ innings up?
Regardless, I’m not sure who this ‘27 team’s shut down, end of the game guy is yet. Probably the portal guy whose name escapes me. But we seem to have a lot of high quality depth (thought we had that last year, too, though). If enough of those guys step up, we may not need a single Herring or Cowan. A couple of guys could combine for that role. But it sure would be nice to have a stud emerge who could come in in the 4th if the starter is off, in a huge SEC game, down 5-0, and just fricking shove until the 8th, allowing our offense to get us back in it. And the next week come in in the 7th and get us the final 9 outs.
I have zero idea who that guy might be, though. If he exists.

I have been thinking the same thing. His last outing was impressive. I'm expecting big things from him

I think that is where I'd love to see him get to. Nothing more satisfying than seeing your Friday guy get you 5-6 good innings and your best bullpen arm close out with 3-4 of his own to free up the entire rest of the pen for Saturday & Sunday.
