I think it's clear that the catcher for OU was well prepared for ABS

I know Jay noticed that and I'm sure they will spend some more time with Cade prepping him for the rest of the tourney now that they know the mechanics of how it's going to work.

It could absolutely make a difference in a tight game.

You can only do so much prep for it. I think it’s mostly intuitive, and subjective to the individual catcher. The catchers who have baseball brains are going to be naturals at it. I’m not sure that’s Cade. Think more of a Milazzo type.

I also think there were a few ABS reviews that could have been made by our batters last night too.

Milazzo would have done extremely well with this.

Yea I only remember Brauns with the bases loaded and that one looked lower than the review indicated, but it was a good time to try it regardless. That pitch made it 0-2 when we had a chance to blow things open.

Most of the challenges were done by the catchers the whole day across every game.

The one the OU SS used on the 3-2 count against Guidry pissed me tf off

Curiel would be awesome at it. Need to get him in the gear.

They knew how the mechanics worked it just how comfortable the catcher feels about doing it and what the situation was.

Like many have said a guy like Milazzo would be great at it he had a great feel for the zone.

I am curious if we start to see catchers attempting to exaggerate the frame for balls that are strikes to try and induce a challenge. I feel like that is what happened with Braun, it looked low because the catcher framed it so high.

While I see what you're saying, I think in that exact moment Braun was gonna use it regardless. He knew that was the type of moment you save them for. They even panned over to Jay right after and he was nodding in agreement

I would be challenging all of the stuff that seems in zone but called ball-high. Seemed like all the elevated stuff was always in zone last night.

With the Omar Serna injury, Edward Yamin has to be ready to go in for Cade.

Would not surprise me, to see Cade getting some DH duties to rest him in a game with Yamin getting a start.

Both Cade and Yamin have to be prepped to properly use the ABS challenge system.

I hope he's better at challenges than he is at running the bases.....and catching.

It also helps if you're catching actual strikes.

i think the ou catcher was actively trying to game the system!… sticking his glovearm straight out trying to get nicked, and draw interference calls and whatever the hell else… he did that exact thing multiple times… and catchers KNOW that is damn near suicide!!!… especially him, who is one of their leading hitters!!!… and the first time he tried something, he had his glove stuck way out in front!!!… hp ump got it right everytime after the first time…
