I think Hanigriff and Rush nailed it pretty well yesterday..

The biggest issue at this point seems to be there is ABSOLUTELY no offensive identity with this year's LSU team. I've often commented to people that it sometimes feels like Crowton is randomly pulling plays out of a jar of marbles... I've never been a big believer in that Miles is taking the play chart out of Crowton's hands...but there is enough disjointed playcalling to wonder what the deal is. Maybe there are too many chefs in the kitchen?
And like they mentioned in the post game comments, we seem to have no idea what type of offense we want to run, and as such we're a jack of all trades and a master of none at this point. We go from ramming Chuck Scott into the 1 hole from a power I set, then go five wides or run a spread option...then run in a wildcat, etc. It's hard to watch.
Finally...in no way am I suggesting that Shepard be the QB at this point (unlike many I've been pleased with what Jefferson has been able to accomplish given the mish-mash of offenses we seem to want to run) but it's fairly hard to explin why Shepard, who is averaging nearly 7 yeards a touch, did not see the ball more than 4 times yesterday. On a day when we were beyond abysmal runing the ball, we basically shelve the best running option we have.
Why?

It's the 4 million dollar question currently.

Crowton is saving the big plays for the bowl game.
Shepard is our best running threat, and I sincerely hope he gets the bulk of the carries

Because in this year - whatever is working .... we immediately stop doing!

I total agree with this - no identity on O whatsoever. And how R.S. doesnt get one carry in the 2nd half is crazy.

To be honest, I DO think they are holding onto the same play see saw out of Tebow his freshman year. That whole hand it to him, let him take a few strides towards the line then step back and throw stuff. But after yesterday, if you have a play in your arsenal that you think will work...I'd think it's time to unshetah that puppy. To not do so is insane.

They pissed off a lot of folks yesterday when they suggested that Shep and Keiland get the bulk with Scott being de-emphisized. Thought being that we simply do not that the OL capable of pounding teams straight ahead like we did last year to make Scott's I formation work as effectively. To continue to bash him into 8 man fronts is doing no one any good...including Scott.

Is it Crowton's playcalling or Jefferson's knowledge of the playbook?
At this point, any identity would be nice, but the Tigers always seem to try the same plays in the run offense. I feel this is why the offense relies so heavily on the short passing game as the running attack.
Jefferson can run well, and if LSU implemented an option style attack with a dive from C Scott with Keiland, Trindon or even shep as the pitch option with either Jefferson or shep directing from QB it would be devastating to try and stop!!! The option is somewhat "old school" but very effective in college... especially with talent at WR blocking and receiving downfield!!
So mix in a healthy dose of option style run attack with a proset passing and running game... PLEASE!!!

I hadn't heard Miles Monday presser or Wednesday Radio Show, but apparantly he said something to the ffect that he'd like to see Shepard gets more touches. Hanigriff REALLY went off on this, suggesting that Miles is the guy in charge...he's not a fan who simply suggests things and hopes they get done. They GET DONE. If he wants Shep to get more carries, he'd tell Crowton to get him more touches. To stand there and act like he's got no say-so over that is kind of silly.

I don't think they have set this up well enough. No team has any fear of #10 passing, because they don't use him enough running.

Ill ask it again here, RS being a freshman and JJ being a sophmore, is it the opinion of the coaching staff that RS will not be a starter until his senior year? Im not saying start him at QB ahead of JJ right now, Im saying make him a starter somewhere and keep him active. He SHOULD be the O leader on this team next year if he is what he was touted to be.

Why?
Anytime Shepard is in the game, is there any guess what is going to happen?
We need diversity of play calling. I'm giving the coaches the benefit of the doubt until next week. We, as fans, should know what we have at that point.

Its Hanagriff and he is 100% correct. That is the stupidest shite I've ever heard

he's been there for well over a year...if he doesnt know the playbook by now when in the hell will he ever learn it...not a jab at you at all...but this whole playbook excuse is getting kind of ridiculous.. he didnt look good yesterday in the rain but Jacori Harris is a true soph running a new playbook from a new O coordinator in Miami and doing fine overall.

I'm not looking to lay this on Jefferson, because I don't see anything to indicate that other than speculation. But if it would be that, that's still a coaching issue. Either it means they recruited a kid that after one full season in the system, a full spring and summer and now fall camp plus 4 games that's unable to grasp the playbook (and his back-up is no better at grasping it or grasps it but puts the team in a worse position to win in their eyes) or he's capable of learning it but they've done a shitty job at teaching it to him. Either way, it falls on the staff.

Agree...and it's basically what Crowton was brought here to do...right? Run the full on spread?

If someone doesn't take charge of the offense and get some continuity in the play calling and better play out of the OL, the whole offensive staff will be changed out at the end of the year, like the defensive staff was last year.

I would like to see shep in the backfield with Jefferson, not just as the wildcat. He probably can't block too good though, so maybe shep and scott back there.
Option read, Or a toss pitch with shep throwing it. Or straight passing play with shep being a short dump off.

VT got a ton of pressure on the U, in the rain, and Harris looked pretty bad yesterday. He has not had to run for his life like JJ until yesterday and when he did, it wasn't pretty.

I really think the "check with me" before every play tends to help kill any and all flow that the offense would otherwise have.
