Wow how did I miss that. I thought he was debating coming out after the 2011 season to the NFL and elected to return.

Aaron Moffitt and Tyler Shelvin are red-shirting. There's likely 1-2 more from the 2017 class that will RS. 20 true freshman have played so far

We've played 26 or 27 Freshmen and Redshirt Freshmen this season.

Folks keep saying we're young. This isn't entirely true.

Let's examine -

LT - Malone - RS Senior. He's 22.
LG - Brumfield - Redshirt Jr
C - Clapp - Redshirt Jr
RG - Ingram - True Freshman. Ok, he's really young
RT - Weathersby - JR
TE - Moreau - JR
WR - Chark - SR
WR - Gage - SR
QB - Etling - 5th YR Senior. HE's 23.
FB - JD Moore - 5th Yr Senior. HE's 22.
RB - Guice - Jr
RB - Williams - SR. He's 22.

Back-ups
OL - S. Charles - Freshman
OL - Cushenberry - RS FR
OL - Deculus - True Freshman
OL - Magee - Redshirt Soph
OL - Savage - RS FR
WR - Dillon - RS Soph
WR - Davis - Soph
WR - Anderson - Soph
WR - Sullivan - Soph
FB - T Carter - True Freshman
TE - Pettigrew - True Freshman
RB - Edwards - Helaire - True Freshman
QB - Brennan - True Freshman

IF healthy, our starters are NOT young, but our 2's are extremely young. Now let's look at the D.

DE - Lawrence - Soph
NT - Gillmore - 5th Yr Senior. He's almost 23.
DE - LaCouture - 5th YR Senior. RS Senior. He's 23.
LB - Key - JR
LB - White - True Soph. He's young.
LB - Thompson - 6th Yr Senior. Can't find his birthdate. Bet he's 23 or 24.
LB - Alexander - Senior. He's almost 22.
CB - Tolliver - True JR. Almost 22.
CB - Jackson - True Jr. Almost 22.
CB - Williams - RS FR - He's young.
SS - Battle - JR. He's 22.
FS - Delpit. True Freshman. He's young.

Back-ups:
DL - Herron - 5th YR Senior. He's 23.
DL - Logan - True Freshman
DL - Alexander - Soph
DE - Chaisson - True Freshman
LB - Taylor - Tr FR
LB - Queen - True FR
LB - Phillips - True FR
LB - Divinity - Soph
LB - Garrett - Freshman
CB - Kirkland - True Freshman
CB - Vincent - True Freshman
S - Monroe - RS Freshman
S - Lewis - RS Soph. Injured.
S - C. Lewis RS FR
DB - Stevens - True Freshman
DB - Harris - True Freshman

PK - Culp - RS Freshman
KO - Gamble - Senior
P - Growden RS Soph
P - Von Rosenberg - Freshman

All of these guys have played quite a bit. That's 25.

But the notion that we're a young team... I think it's safe to say our 2's are young.... and our team next year will be mostly Sophomores starting, which will make for a much younger team than this year's team.

So, our starters are not young, we are not suddenly without talent, and in 2 weeks we will play in our 9th game of the yr.

Why can’t we be competitive with Bama?

Your post should be stickied and then put into every thread that mentions the ridiculous "89 freshmen are playing " narrative.

probably not but why is that important? we are starting several freshmen in key roles including OL, DB and safety while playing others at times. that's a lot, esp in those three critical positions.

LSU has always played a lot of freshmen and started a few most years ...never seem to be an issue to many fans on this board til very recently.

I wonder what the reason for that is ?

Few good players stay 5 years unless a couple of them are sidelined because of injury.

Saving a redshirt is no longer necessary and in many cases, counterproductive.

Exactly . I've brought up Georgia playing 17 freshmen several times on here to illustrate that the freshmen excuse really doesn't hold any water like it did many years ago.

by comparison how many freshman is bama playing? I dont know the answer but not many Even though several of their guys are first year starter they have been in program 2-3 years. Make a huge difference. Need guys to stay and not leave for nfl, transfer, or flunk out to compete yearly.

When they played a few weeks ago the announcer said 15 had played. Not sure what it is now.

If you have talent, then play them. In theory we should recruit at a level where we dont have to redshirt everybody.

eta: Quick search looks like 17. Bama and Ohio State play the best players, and I assume our staff will too.

The argument with Miles from rantards was that he didnt let his more talented freshman play. Even though that was completely false.

Now that a bunch of freshman are playing, now O is playing too many.

So, to answer your question...the idiots on this board will not be happy with anything.

Sounds like wasted red shirts.

Not wasted because they played and will leave after their true JR. year. As a redshirt they would leave after their RS sophomore year. Tree years of playing time if played as freshman 3years if RS'ed.
