I would just be stoked that LSU won out, lol.

If LSU doesn't play the the SEC will have to change the rules such as look at division record only

Which rule do they need to change? I can't find a rule that governs this issue.

Joe alluded in a interview yesterday, that if the game is not played, and LSU ends up 6-1 with Bama at 7-1, that a special vote would have to be held to determine who would advance to the SEC Championship game and how the tie breaker would be determined. I don't believe for a second that it would go over well if LSU ended 6-1 and beat Bama and Bama goes to the championship game. This would not fly across the country with other fans of the sport.

quote:for a month maybe. like 2 years ago when TCU got left out of the playoff then annihilated Ole Miss 42-3. the same Ole Miss team we beat 10-7 and who beat bama.
and the SEC will know who the best team was.
theres no doubt in my mind TCU was the best team in the country that year, yet Ohio State has the trophy. thats what people remember.

probably from where i got mine when i looked up the bylaw number
LINK
this says commissioners regulations for 2015-2016 GOVERNING CONFERENCE COMPETITION,
CHAMPIONSHIPS AND TOURNAMENTS
the one you provided is obviously an updated one that said 2016-2017.
the one just a year prior stated the higher winning percentage, which is why most people have said that.

I would love to see us win out. But I just don't see it happening. This team is pretty good but not good enough to run the table.

Florida has a very good shot at getting beat. They struggled with fricking Vandy.

7-1 = higher winning percentage, so that trumps in the tie-breaker.
And the bylaws state that all teams shall play 8 games. So which is it? How is it interpreted? Clarification is needed I believe.
Right. The winning percentage clause clearly presupposes an equal number of games played. There's no logical reason that it should automatically trump head to head results in this scenario (or hypothetical scenario of 6-1 vs 7-1, where 6-1 won the head to head).

Y'all have to look at the sport specific bylaws. See here on pg 68 LINK
And although further down it says this
quote:
Conference Championship. [SEC Bylaw 30.22.1.3] The Conference champion will be determined by a game
between the two division champions. The team in each division with the highest percentage of wins during all regular-
season Conference competition will be declared division champion.
And although further down it says this
quote:There is also a provision under inclement weather and interrupted game procedures that games may be canceled. So, it would go to win %
Each Conference team shall play eight Conference games each year.

Historically it has. See 1972

We aren't going to come close to winning out, so this is all academic.

We need to worry about this week. LSU is known for being sketchy after a BYE..

Pg 70 for football:
quote:pg 6-7 for the interrupted game procedures
Inclement Weather. All weather-related decisions before kickoff shall be made by the home team’s Athletics
Director or senior-level administrator, in consultation with the referee (See “Interrupted Game Procedures” in General
Administration section
quote:won't spend the time to format correctly because I'm on my phone, but I bolded the cancel part
2. Authority. Authority to delay or relocate a contest is vested with the home institution’s Athletics Director
or designated senior level administrator. Authority to suspend a contest is vested with the officials. Authority
to cancel, postpone or terminate a contest is vested only with the Commissioner or his/her designee.
3. Guidelines.
A. The home institution’s Athletics Director or designated senior level administrator shall have the authority
to determine whether a contest should, prior to its start, be temporarily delayed until a later time on the
same date. Once a contest has started, the decision to suspend play is the responsibility of the game
officials.
B. If extenuating circumstances occur that necessitate the relocation of the contest site within the same city,
the home institution’s Athletics Director or designated senior level administrator shall have the authority
to determine whether and where the contest should be relocated. The decision should be made in
consultation with the visiting team. The alternate site must be in full compliance with all NCAA playing
rules and regulations governing that particular sport.
C. If a contest is postponed prior to its start for any reason, the two participating institutions, in consultation
with the Commissioner or his/her designee, shall attempt to reschedule the game at a later time or date.
If the contest cannot be rescheduled, the Commissioner shall cancel the contest.
D. If a contest is suspended for any reason after play has begun, the contest must be resumed as soon as
conditions are deemed safe by the officials in consultation with the home team game management
personnel.
E. A suspended contest may not be resumed after midnight local time, or two hours following the point of
suspension, whichever is later.

Were there any hard and fast rules about this kind of stuff then? I always thought the conference was a lot more loosey-goosey about a lot of this until we split off into divisions and had conference regulated schedules and and a championship game.
Posted on 10/11/16 at 2:19 pm to Colonel Flagg
Florida is definitely not likely to win out.

It's going to be funny when neither team wins out and all this argument will have been for nothing
