impossible job recruiting last year.

This team was incredibly raw and unskilled.

See Missouri, then respond.
Even Ole Miss, with an interim Coach, played like a team. Ran plays that worked.

When one player is playing bad, its on the player. When the whole team is playing bad its on the coach.
May want to look in a mirror buddy.

Air balls, bricks, missed layups, missed free throws, turnovers. The stupidity of LSU fans who constantly blame the coach is breathtaking!

and the rest of the morons who make comments like: he recruited this team, his offense is stagnant, and he should have benched Miller and Reed, because that’s coaching. fricking hilarious!!

Yeah, I saw Missouri play. So what? They have guys who can shoot and make plays off the dribble. LSU had one consistent shooter. The rest couldn’t throw it in the ocean! So, some coach ran plays that “worked”. They only work if your plays can execute them. Btw, teams run offenses; they only run “plays”. In certain circumstances. Either way, to run a successful offense, you have to have players that can score consistently, and they don’t have that. So pointing to some other coach that has a successful team and implying that MM is not a good coach because his team was not successful, is just dumb. If any one of you dopes would have been put on the sidelines at Tennessee, you would have had a successful year - shrimp boots and all.

With 10% better shooting just in the paint and an average of five less turnovers and this team finishes #6-8 in the SEC. Is sad we are saddled with below average players.

Matt McMahon overall record with Ja Morant and Matt McMahon overall record without Ja Morant - that is the question.
Jerry Stackhouse ran circles around them last night, Jerry Stackhouse. Jerry Stackhouse.

Did he not recruit the players? I’m so confused where some of these posters came from after last night. It’s like the save Matt McMahon patrol was alerted.
Never said I didn’t like him, or the entire season was his fault. But he did recruit the team and the coach DOES get some blame for how the players play believe it or not.

Last year, without Ja Morant, was his best season at Murray St. He also won the OVC (regular season) championship the year after Morant left.
This isn't a situation where one player made the coach. It's more of a situation where a consistently good program made the coach.
IMO, McMahon is destined to be the next Darren Horn.
Horn was hired at Western Kentucky after Dennis Felton took the Georgia job. WKU had long been one of the better mid-major programs in America. Felton won three straight conf. championships and reached 3 straight NCAAT before Horn was hired. Horn came in and had some up and down seasons at WKU (for their standards) before having a great season in 07-08, taking WKU to the sweet 16. He was hired at South Carolina after that season. His first major conf. HC job. In four year there USC progressively got worse until he was fired. He's now at Northern Kentucky heading back to the NCAA Tournament this year.
Horn was a guy who was hired based upon his success at a mid-major program who had a long history of success before him. He was terrible in the SEC. He's now back having success at another good mid-major program. Some guys are just better suited for that level. I think McMahon is probably one of those guys.
Hiring a HC from a mid-major program with a long history of success predating the coach is a crapshoot. At best, it is probably 50/50 odds that coach will succeed at the major conf. level. You are seeing that play out in real time. LSU hired wade from VCU, a program with a long history of success predating Wade. On the court at least, the hire was working out well. Unfortunately, were are now on the other side of that coin.
