I like Wade and hope he comes back, but I’m not sure putting all our eggs in that basket is wise.
It worked in football, the administration was clear on its target and went all in and it paid off. Fingers crossed it happens again.

Will Wade is a solid NCAA Tournament coach when he actually gets to coach the games.
In the 6 tournaments he's led on the bench (VCU 2016 & 2017, LSU 2021, McNeese 2024 & 2025, NC State 2026), his teams are 4-5 in 9 games played so far. That record matches—or beats—what you'd expect from their seeds, which have mostly been 8 through 12 (underdogs). He pulled off real upsets: a 10 beating a 7, an 8 beating a 9, and a 12 beating a 5 (first NCAA win ever for McNeese). He's gotten to the Round of 32 three times with those kinds of seeds.
The only Sweet 16 run (LSU 2019) happened while he was suspended and couldn't coach. The bad first-round loss as a favorite (LSU 2022) also came after he was fired. When he's not there, the teams have underperformed expectations.
Wade qualifies teams consistently and gets the most out of low seeds when he's allowed to lead them. The "bad coach in March" talk comes from off-court drama and missing games—not from what happens when he's actually coaching. He's proven he belongs in the tournament.

Why would he not consider coming back. He has an established donor base here. He has an administration here now that he trust. At the end of the day, it’s SEC v. ACC money, there is no comparison and that revenue gap is only getting wider.

If anything we could be holding off until nc state loses then we fire MM and we hangout until April 1 and pick up Wade then.
Of course NC State would be really smart to realize this was going on and then waive the buyout just so they don’t get stuck with a Pete Golding level hire due to time

Is it possible Wade and his agent have asked LSU to hold off on the firing?
Imagine if this EPIC LOSER was fired today. There would be so much speculation swirling around NC state, INSTANTLY. I can't imagine Wade would be comfortable with that.

I wish posters like you had the capacity to look beyond what is in front of you in black and white.
Things go on behind the scenes that we aren't privy to, but anyone (at least it seems to me, maybe I'm wrong) can put 2 and 2 together and reach a hypothesis on what could likely (not guaranteed of course) be going on.
It shocks me how many people have a simplistic view on how things work.

I was thinking the same thing Salt.
NC state administration may very well have already been informed he's leaving, and in the interest of team focus are keeping it quiet.
This at least gives them a shot at a decent candidate, and not being stuck promoting an AC.
