I cannot believe the dominant attitude on this board that ditching Bama just to make our lives easier is a good thing. I thought we were better than that. That is so incredibly lame.

Dude you are an idiot if you think that. This literally benefits LSU more than any other team
I care about watching big games against traditional rivals. The playoffs have sucked the fun out of this sport. What’s the point of college football if we aren’t beating Auburn Florida and Alabama? Only teams we’ve played for generations.
Good lord. I have no interest in winning simply by taking an easier path. I’d rather face the gauntlet and enjoy seeing better matchups than weaseling our way around it through advantaged scheduling but less big games.

What? Who is trying to ditch the Alabama game? Furthermore, you're going on like we're never going to play Florida, Alabama, Auburn again. That isn't the case. Relax.
And IF, we don't play Alabama during the regular season and we get to the post season and play them once, that also could benefit them or us.

If you can't see that other teams are also ranked highly, OU being one of them, and if we beat them it benefits LSU. It's that simple.
No one is saying we are trying to get rid of playing Alabama.

We'd still play perennially high ranked teams. How is that the easier path? Big 12 offense vs SEC defense.
If it bothers you so much, don't watch.

I get what y’all are saying in terms of the cold stats and metrics.
But Jesus is it worth it to win a championship if you’re not playing the teams you care about beating to do it?

Who's saying we don't play those teams? I just gave you a perfect example.
I don't think it will be like you play team A, B, C and D and that's that. There would be other teams involved and in the post season perhaps, we'd play one of those teams or we may play a team we play every year during the regular season like always.
Relax.

I’m about there. With the last year and the slow chipping away at traditions I’ve become far more apathetic. I have zero interest in an revised LSU schedule that starts skipping out on our historical opponents more. As I’ve said before, what’s the point after that? It’s less fun if we play teams we really don’t give a crap about even if it’s to our “advantage”. I’m a fan because the sport is fun to watch. LSU vs Auburn Florida and Alabama is fun to watch. By a mile.

I don't mean any disrespect but it it bothers you this much, when nothing is finalized, don't watch. You're getting worked up over something that hasn't even happened. Let alone have the schedule for that come out. It's going to be fine.
Who knows what the schedule will actually be.
I'll continue to watch and support the Tigers.

It’s the slow building up many many traditions going by the wayside. Each one by itself is fine and usually not a big deal. But when you look up and see how different the sport and atmosphere is, it makes you realize it’s less fun. I wouldn’t trade playing those teams just to win more titles because to me it would feel cheap. Winning is great, but winning because you’re good is what I want. Not winning because the schedule suddenly became more advantageous.

Good god. We don’t have to play bama every year, which is basically an automatic loss. Don’t have to play against Florida which is a 50/50 game every year. Basically a net gain in wins right there. If the pod thing is legit we would be the favorite every year basically. Come on man
Posted on 7/24/21 at 1:24 am to jlovel7
You said you wouldn’t trade away “those teams” to win more titles. Any somewhat reasonable LSU fan would. Either way, we’d still be playing bama here and there, especially in the playoffs. If you don’t like having a better chance at making the playoffs then I don’t know what to tell you? This is 110% a good thing for LSU whether you realize it or not. I’m not trying to be a dick to you I just truly don’t understand.

Ok you're really overthinking this.
What traditions have gone by the wayside?
You're even bringing up different athletics.
Again, I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful but you're flipping out about something that hasn't even happened.
The base of your concern is that we will not play Alabama, Auburn, etc ever again and that isn't true.
Calm down.

Well this is not about running from anyone, the SEC brass made this decision and the schedule will be changed, LSU has nothing to do with it
When has the SEC ever cared what LSU wanted? Who runs the SEC? This is not about LSU running from Bama. It's about Bama running from LSU. I'm not saying they're scared of us, but they know that the West is traditionally the harder path to the SEC CG and LSU is usually the hardest team on that path. Why else do they always use their bye week for us?
They also know that winning championships brings in more paying fans than having exciting games and the best route to that is by creating the easiest path.
And if there is a 12 team playoff, it's a given that both teams in the SEC CG will make it. That will significantly decrease the relevance of the outcome. How long before they start playing freshmen in that game and give their starters a rest before the playoffs? If you think a few years down the road, it's not as crazy as you might think.

Jesus.
I didn’t realize that 99% of this board were a bunch of crusty vaginas.
The Alabama game is the biggest game of the year because of what’s on the line. It’s usually the most nationally recognized SEC Game, probably the most expensive ticket. And widely regarded as the two teams with the most talented players in the country (LSU always loses because our coaches couldn’t coach middle school flag football but still the point stands)
To act like “it’s a good thing” for LSU to lose this game is a joke. LSU, minus the amazing 2019 season, really has only had credibility as “the team that could most upset Alabama”. You’re taking away that part of LSU’s national conversation. In terms of publicity alone, taking away LSUs biggest game is a very bad thing.
And to circle back to all the crusty meat wallets who want an easier road to the national championships, what are you 5? I used to think about that lame excuses when I was a child. You’re actively advocating to take the most meaningful game off the schedule. The date on the calendar both schools have circled for months prior to the season. Give me a break. The yearly Alabama games, UF games, and to a lesser degree Auburn, Georgia every once in a while, etc. those games are exciting because we COULD lose. That’s the point in actually watching the games. There’s really meaningful stakes on the line. That’s what makes college sports more entertaining than pro sports as it is. And again, most of you are excited to rid the program of that.
I think it hurts publicity. It hurts fan engagement. It hurts recruiting. And ultimately like I’ve said before, it hurts playoff viability. A 2 or 3 loss LSU team IS NOT going to make the playoffs over 1 loss PAC 12, Big 10. Notre Dame. Even an undefeated Boise St or UCF. It’s just not going to happen.
This move is only a good idea if the SEC breaks from the NCAA and starts their own NFL style league. Add OU and Texas. A seeded structure to have our own SEC playoffs, and SEC champion. That is a really good idea. You get to keep most (if not all) your big games. More teams make the playoff because it’s only from our super conference. So big season games still have meaning as do the playoff matchups.
For those wanting to hide from Alabama. Just advocate playing Nichols State and Bowling Green week in and week out. See if UTEP needs a home and home series. Why play any good teams at all right? LSU could lose...
Or go be a UCF fan

I understand that there's a lot of anxiety about change, people worried about losing "rivalry games" etc.
For those who say this and list Auburn- keep in mind, we didn't play them much until the first expansion (Arkansas/South Carolina), which created the divisions.
3 games in the early 40's, none in the 50's, once in the 60's (69), 3 in the 70's (early), then 4 times in the 80s- 80,81,88,89. Wasn't until 92 and the creation of divisions, that it became a yearly thing.
The point being, if we start playing someone else competitively and the stakes are big, it will also become a "rivalry".

Y'all have it all wrong. The merger is not about fans, rivalries, etc., it about TV time slots and MONEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.
TV controls College Athletics and calls the shots!!!
I have been going to Tiger Stadium for more than 50 years and have never heard anyone say how much they loved 11 am kickoffs or any other time other than night games. However, when you sell your soul to the TV devil for MONEY you dance to their tune!!!!!!!!!!!!
