My god! Once again, this is not about comparison to dale brown or any other lsu coach!

If a comparison is to be made, it’s a comparison to wade himself and progression toward a goal and that goal has to be a championship.

2018 was a good year. His best finish. He followed with sub .700 seasons so not a good follow up. Yet fans were sniffing his shorts like he was a god!
This year could be an improvement. We’ll see.

I’m sure wade himself wants a championship. As fans , we should want a championship. Personally, I just want to be in the mix every year. That’s just me tho.

This year is a critical one for wade. He has the talent. If he does not at least make it to the 16, my questions grow. Some would say he should make it to 8. I’ll give him slack there.

But please dude, stop the comparisons to past lsu coaches. It’s just not about that.

Your Standard of a “Good” team is Sweet Sixteen and “Great” is Final Four.

Your comments sound exactly like the ones that plagued Dale Brown throughout his LSU career after 1986. These criticisms were totally legitimate at the time as well. I’ve been watching LSU basketball since going with my dad to watch Pistol Pete set records. I attended the vast majority of these games ever since. Some of Dale’s criticisms were legit just as some of Wade’s MAY be. Dale had 25 years to develop this persona. This went on for 6 years too long. Anyhow, if you want to be honest with yourself let’s revisit your complaints after Wade has a 25 year body of work to compare. It was year 6 or 7 before Brown did anything. Based solely on early season success the edge is. with Wade. Right now he’s our guy and I’m pulling for his success. Is he perfect? No. Has he been successful? Without a doubt. Get with the program you wannabe fans!

You do realize we got bounced by a really good team last year and played them a great game, correct?

I haven't gone through this thread but many of the ones butthurt with WW being criticized are the same ones who were touting us as a final 4 team last week and we should win the conference etc. I love WW but to ignore the fact he and his teams have some deficiencies is disingenuous.

Yeah, that’s relevant.

I still say this is a crossroad season for Wade. If LSU wants a relevant basketball program, getting to the 8 will be a significant step and after 5 years, I think it’s reasonable to expect that.
I’d be okay with a the 16 but that’s just me.

I think a lot of fans want more at this point

This is an absurd standard, and that's why everyone is pushing back on it.

So, it's "reasonable to expect" an Elite Eight?

Currently, there is 1 team with multi-year "streak" of appearing in the Elite Eight: Gonzaga has appeared in the last 2.

So, let's look at Sweet 16:
There are 5 teams with multi-year streaks of appearing in the Sweet-16: Gonzaga (6), Michigan (4), Florida State (3), Houston (2), and Oregon (2).

Achieving the Sweet-Sixteen year after year is hard. Very hard.

The longest streak of reaching the Sweet-16 LSU has ever had is 3, from 79-81. Those were LSU's best teams ever and those happened before the tournament expanded to 64 teams: each of those LSU teams had a bye in the first round.

Gonzaga's current 6 game streak of reaching the Sweet-Sixteen is tied for the fifth longest streak ever. Only UCLA (14), North Carolina (13), and Duke (9 & 7) have longer streaks. Not Kentucky. Not Kansas. Not Louisville.

I think this is a Sweet-Sixteen team when healthy. I thought last year's team was a Round of 32 team.

But, it is delusional to "expect an Elite Eight" in any year, especially at a school that has no history of being consistent in basketball.

BOOT UP!
