You can say it all in a couple of sentences. LSU doesn’t need hall of fame coaches (ex. like Alabama, Florida, etc.) to win championships.

Orgeron walked into a championship program with OC, DC and S&C coach in place and a team loaded with talent. It doesn’t get any easier than that. He could never build a program or even maintain one for a long period.
You gotta give Coach O credit for recruiting and signing Burrow and other key players on that team, plus bringing in Brady as passing game coordinator (or whatever the hell they were calling him).

He made the right personnel choices as far as players and assistants.

Y.A. Tittle

Best analysis of the situation I have seen - btw -

My brother took me to see YA Tittle play in the 1949 game vs NC = but I came away talking about the NC star - "Choo Choo Justice"

As an 11 yr old - I was fascinated with Tiger Stadium - when we first started in I thought it was just a big building and they played the game on the roof.

He got lucky, and he could never build a team like that again in 100 years.

O was like an olympic championship swimmer.

After he won the Gold Medal, Woody was hired and placed an "Anchor". Pellini, on his neck.

'Then fans like you cheered and screamed, I told you Orgeron was a disaster. now, we have Kelly, a true champion Head Coach.

Ed O has been a part of 5 national championships off the top of my head. Could be wrong. He’s better than a lot of people think.

This. He still had to rebuild the program in 2017-2018, which is what lead to that amazing 2019 season. 2019 doesn’t happen without him doing the things he did in 2017-2018. I think he just simply checked out after winning it all in 2019. He had a lot of personal issues going on as well after the 2019 season.

But people judge the man based on how he talks and looks. But he’s a damn good football coach tbh and knows how to get the job done. Plenty of coaches who can talk more clearly and look normal, who couldn’t do half of what he’s been able to accomplish.

So he walked into a team that Miles couldn’t keep his job with and built the greatest team in college football history. You have to acknowledge that he is better than most people think. You don’t outsmart multiple ADs and build a championship team if you don’t understand college football.

2020 & 2021 Ed Orgeron are the real Ed Orgeron,

When Brennan got hurt, O got caught in the QB quandary Miles did when he had to dismiss Perilloux which forced Lee and Jefferson to take real snaps years before they were ready.

2021 had some better players in place, recruits on the way, and a better defensive staff. Would he have won another championship, i doubt it. But I don't believe LSU was eternally damned to losing seasons.

This is evidenced by Kelly's best season was with the majority of O players and recruits, plus Jayden.

It's mind blowing to me still that coach O won a national championship as a head coach, but there is no doubt that he took his job seriously and approached the position correctly. He just got lazy after winning the title, and being completely reliant on coordinators because you don't know X's and O's isn't a viable long term strategy (see Dabo).
