Matt Canada's offense was childhood playground amateur bullshite.

You run the football goaline to goaline NOT sideline to sideline.

If you want to see jet sweeps working...go watch Pee Wee.

I wouldn't go that far. If I am a OC I have jet sweeps and pre snap motions, and flipping the formation strengths in the tool box for sure. He had some very good stuff but his whole offense was more smoke and mirrors than substance.

The jet sweep was very effective here. What were you watching?

We had DJ Chark, Russell Gage, and the best route runner on the team in Justin Jefferson and Canada preferred an offensive system that put routes designed to get the ball in a walk-on FBs hands.

Canada was terrible. Take that crap to Pitt where there are no athletes at WR who can catch.

Matt Canada's offense was at best quite simplistic and predictable; at worst it was a complete disaster (cf Miss St and Troy 2017). I don't recall LSU having even one sustained drive that year; they scored a lot of points, but mostly due to special teams, occasional big plays on offense, and great defense which produced short fields and scads of Connor Culp FGs.

For and against.

Arkansas ran for 385 yards in a win vs. the National Champions in 2007 in Baton Rouge.

With essentially the same game plan (Wildcat and more sweeps than the 1986 NY Mets), Arkansas ran for 298 yards in a very close game in 2006.

683 combined rushing yards in those two games. Both of those Defenses were top 15 in the nation vs. the run.

What makes this even more impressive is that the Razorbacks didn't have much of a passing game. 211 passing yards in those two games (67 by McFadden). Really incredible performances, and a masterful job of game planning to your strengths.

Nobody in football runs that offense for a reason.

I’d take coach E any day.

Hey, he did replace all the windows and renovate the exterior of Tiger Stadium. (Even though it's now 4 different stadium's on the exterior that don't match)

Misdirection football works but you have to give the defense a reason to overpursue. All those option teams of days gone by ran tons of misdirection handoffs but it was the brutal efficiency of the triple option that had the defenses going the wrong way.

Did Ogeron do his homework on Canada before hiring him?

He probably never even met the guy before Canada showed up for work

Coach Zero's pitch was as follows to get the LSU job- Per the Binder

1- I will take less $ and use the difference to hire the best coaches in CF. Aranda was top notch so He only had to address Offense

2- I am the best recruiter in CF and will load the boat with talent.

3- The talent, high quality coordinators and my passion = Championships for LSU.

Bottom line- Zero was forced to hire a splash OC by virtue of his promise.

I believe Canada knew he was FOS almost immediately and thus the pissing contest started.

Kiffin fell through, so O had to scramble to keep his first and biggest campaign promise. He HAD to get a "big name" OC. Canada fit the bill as a hot name at the time. He was a Broyles award finalist. Thus, O hired him to make good on his promise. It did not matter that O had no relationship with Canada or really knew much about his offense, and if it would be successful with LSU's personnel in the SEC. He had to deliver on his campaign promise to hire a big name.

It's more on O than anybody but don't let this board off the hook for planting Canada in his mind. There was a lot of pro-Canada talk here before he ever emerged as a real candidate. A better coach might have foreseen what a bad fit it was and ignored the posters here but it's disingenuous to ignore our own role.

Leave it to LSU fans to continue crying about a coach that brought us the greatest season in CFB history years after he’s already gone. He needed to go when he did but this shite is starting to get embarrassing

It's not like Canada went on to be some superstar Offensive genius. All he had was smoke and mirrors which may work at Pitt because they play weak undisciplined teams. That crap didn't fool anyone in the SEC.

It was still a dumb time and I wonder if O was even the one who hired him.

went to the Steeler's training camp last weekend, I had completely forgotten that's where he is, can't believe Tomlin would hire him and I feel bad for Steelers fans
