It's not rocket science

I don't get this take at all. He played a lot of QB spy and just launched himself at the QBs when he had an option to. That is just not sustainable long term, and also a lot harder to do when the line generates zero pressure. He also just cannot hold up in the run game, so it's extremely tough to play him as a 7 or 9.

He got whacked at the 1/2 yard line on that one carry, but it didn't phase him much. Just sayin'.

He had 7.5 sacks as a freshman after not really playing until half the season.
He had 5.5 sacks this season after they started letting him rush the passer.

Let’s just let him do what he does best.

Hey Matt,
Dont over think this shite. It is as simple as simple can get. Go to the film on the FRESHMAN year of PERKINS. Play him at that position and in that capacity.

HOUSE do not frick this up.

His future is on offense people

Only because we do not have a competent defensive coach on staff that can place him properly within a defensive scheme.

SO, before we mis-play this amazing athlete, I would rather see him on the offensive side oif the ball.

IN OTHER WORDS: If House remains on staff, then move Perk to offense.

He still wouldn’t be doing what he does best and that is rush the passer

Jamal Adams had 9.5 sacks in 2020, in 12 games, the most ever by a defensive back in NFL history.

That's where Perkins would be best utilized. That modern SS position is very similar to a weak side OLB.

House was smart to play Perkins as a safety this year and also he didn't have much choice. I would move him to safety we have some very talented LB's coming in this class.

he’s in coverage 70% of the time anyway, might as well let him be closer to the middle of things and effect the run game.

If he played the position like Mathieu, Landry, Jones, Adams, never knowing where they were going to be, all of Perkins skill set could be used. Much better than bulking him up and putting him at a LB position that teams can scheme away from.
I have said all year, his size and quickness spelled strong safety.

As a hypothetical… Obviously he’s a bit too far along in his LB development to switch, but he seems to have the exact same size, speed, and skillset as jamal adams (blitz boy). He’s a tweener for LB but would’ve made an awesome safety circa 2016 LSU.

Considering how much he has to play as a Nickel and how outdated the SAM position is in modern football…he is basically a Safety already except in name.

I’ve said this before and will keep saying it. The problem isn’t Perkins’ current role. He’s solid in coverage as an LB and that makes him extremely versatile. The issue is that House wasn’t create enough to use him to do what he does best in that role. A better DC with an attacking scheme will have him wreaking havoc from multiple spots on the field.

100% agree. find a DC who coaches an aggressive minded defense that likes to bring pressure... move perkins around to make the offense account for him. bring different pressures... kids love to get after the QB. Belichick, Saban and all the top Defensive minds agree that pressure on the QB is the primary way to beat these newer pass happy offenses.

Perkins could really shine in that role.

Terrible. Perkins struggles breaking down opposing offenses and when to attack and when to drop back. Of course, our entire secondary did too. I'm just hoping the DC can come in there and really work with him and help him understand the game better. He's great at doing the simple things, but in order to take his game to the next level, he needs to get bigger/stronger and become a student of the game so he can understand the game at a higher level.
