I'm gonna say it now, but this is gonna be the best thing that happened to college football in a long time.

The lead up to the playoffs is going to be insane, determining who's in, who's out, and who gets seeded where.

Then the actual playoffs is going to be off the charts.

Sorry, any so-called "football purist" who was against this is wrong. This is going to be a month of football insanity...

It will all be exciting & better for the fans, but it will be exactly what everyone thought it was - a big money grab.

I’d predict that nobody outside of the top 8 will ever win a championship, but I guess it’s more fun with 12 or 16 teams.

Anybody sitting outside the top 10 complaining about getting left out is just dumb

It's only a money grab because of the fact that it will be such a must watch event. College football has never been watched at such a scale as it will be watched in December.

What in this world is not a money grab..

I don’t give a damn if it’s about money or not, it’s going to be f’ing awesome to have a college football playoff

I’m still a BCS guy, but I’ve adapted to the playoffs. I’m sure the 12 teams will be fun, but I’m afraid it’s not going to end there. They keep moving the needle closer to NFL and it’s not as fun for a college football fan. It’s all about money, not the best two teams, because the 11th and 12th teams really have no business playing for a national championship when they have loses and couldn’t win their conference.
I thought 4 was good enough, maybe even 6. But it’ll expand to 16 and beyond.
The concern is the amount of football you’re making these young guys play. Travel for fans. I’m sure they’ll figure out, but teams are going to need some serious depth.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. I’m sure I’ll enjoy watching

I think you missed his point. But anyway there has been a playoff. It’s just longer with more irrelevant teams. Good for us who like watching exciting college football though so I’m with you on that.

I know there were ways to egg the BCS polls but they need the 12 team playoffs using that metric. Look if you aren't 12 you literally have no voice in a single argument. It's similar to the FCS but less teams to cut out a lot of fat so theoretically every team is truly in the hunt at the beginning of each season.

One thing that I hadn’t thought of before is if the expanded playoff will lead to lower coaching turnover. With only 4 playoff spots available, 97% of FBS coaches ended their season in “failure”. This drops to 91% with the expanded format but more importantly a much higher percentage of “Tier 1” coaches will make “meaningful” postseason.

the expanded playoff will keeps fans of teams who get their 1st or 2nd loss in early november still highly vested in the last 3-4 games.

and as LSU fans, we certainly know that applies to us a lot the last 20 years.

There will still be debate on who should get in at 12 between 2 or 3 teams.

We just got to get in... I think the LSU brand and stadium reputation will sway the committee to give us that 8th seed if we're somewhere between around 8-10 at the end of the season.

So the chase for money has turned college football into the mini NFL....pretty soon they'll be playing 18 games...the kids won't need to go to class...and the most money from NIL wins. The school and conference will be meaningless and the traditions of the game will be lost to history. The "new" traditions will lack the long term ties to "alma mater" and getting one for the Gipper...it'll all be getting one for the bucks. The "new" fan will never know what he/she missed as the focus changes very quickly to win at any cost and time sensitive betting becomes prevalent. It won't be I want to play for LSU ... it's how much you gonna give me. Enjoy.

There will still be controversy because of G5 auto-bids and conference championships. I think this format is very temporary and will be changed.
