How wild do you expect the portal to get?

Not just on our roster, but across the landscape. Seems like the media keeps harping on this idea that the floodgates are going to open.
Obviously we're going after DTs, but if the wheels come off and there's a mass exodus of top tier players leaving programs, which positions would you like to see explored for upgrading?

BK already said we are likely only targeting DT’s in this portal window. We also have a numbers problem. If we pick up 2-3 guys, we will need 5-6 guys to transfer out before the season.

The only players hitting the spring portal are guys who couldn’t beat out the guy in front of them, so they hit the portal. The fact that SEC players can’t transfer within the conference makes it even harder to find top tier guys.
And…. Yes…. I know Joey B came to us in the Spring portal. That’s the 1/100 exception to the rule.

Joey B was also when it was mainly grad transfers looking for a last chance to show off. Not the sophomores transferring because they haven’t been given a guaranteed starting spot

I feel like they say this every year about the spring portal, and it ends up being a dud. Any legit player is going to transfer in the winter so they can get the spring to work in a new system.

FWIW, Josh Pate, on his last few pod casts, has been saying that in his conversations with numerous coaches, "chaos is getting ready to hit college football". He specifically said the transfers will include more than a few top players. One HC is holding his best DB out of Spring ball because he thinks the player will be leaving.

I don’t get this in the NIL age.
Just have them as come walk ons and pay their tuition with Gordon bucks.

Unless he knows this as a fact, I can't think of a better way to guarantee said player will be leaving.

Get you head out of the sand. Transfer rules are out the window and there are no penalties for tampering. Big time players will be on the move after spring.

Joe came before the portal existed. He was a grad transfer that is different.

Honestly the sec rule keeps it kind of contained because sec rosters can’t poach players in the spring

How did Saban do it? He seemed to 5* backups every year. He didn’t seem to have the exodus of other teams. Did they just know you wait your turn then you’re the starter at a premier program

I don’t think it’ll be as many players as people think
Most of the guys that’s transferring after spring are guys that was buried on the depth charts

That was all pre portal and NIL. Once those two things began, he was losing players left and right like everyone else. He’s admitted that’s the main reason he’s no longer coaching.
