I hear this all the time that before he went to Bama he tried to get his job back here.
I know the answer to this.

Is there any truth to this?

remember, Saban didn't have the talent Spurrier had back then, he was in the process of building LSU into the powerhouse that it is today, well, I'm not sure about that anymore.
had he had that talent that he built LSU up to in 2003, he would have kicked Spurrier's arse also.

If Spurrier had gone back to Florida..there would be no talk of Saban & his alledged greatness & Meyer may be at Notre Dame.

fwiw,
some of the taf big money were ready to fire les after the ark loss. they might have even planted the michigan story.
i'm thinking that the taf big money are probably behind all the negatigers and ranturds here on td.

So they planted a story, so that they could pay Big Les 2 Million more than he was already making?
Sheer Brilliance!!

As good as Spurrier's run in the 90's was, he only managed 1 championship out of it in 13 years (and even the year he won it all, he lost to FSU in the last game of the regular season- he needed 4 or so teams ahead of him to lose on the last weekend of the year to get a rematch with FSU- and they did). Sorry but I'll take 2 NC's in 8 years in the SEC (with two different programs, both of whom were struggling mightily when Saban got there) over 1 National Title in 13 years at Florida.

while we are kicking BS stories around, I will share mine....take it for what it's worth you annoying, know-it-all, numb nut, douche nozzles..Gawd I hate you all.........but I digress...................anywho, what i was told was that soon after arriving in South Beach, Little Nikki realized he made a mistake...it was at this pernt that nicki's agent started trying to dig up potential gigs for Lester....this was told to me during the wake of Katrina....I was staying with well-heeled Coonass cousins (in the "know") and we were using their house as a staging area as we went back and forth to the MS gulf coast.....the wife was the driving force behind it in the story i was told...........BUT, whichever one of you annoying dickweeds made the pernt about connected people with money sometimes not having a f-ing clue...my life experiences have taught me that this is very tru..............so...there it is...take it FWIW

tell you what, I do believe Saban and his wife are fond of BR and the memories, but he's stuck in hicktown now so I'm sorry for them. He may stay a couple of more years and get the hell on out of there.

The BCS is structured differently now. Saban never came close to stopping Spurrier at Florida.

sammach,
So they planted a story, so that they could pay Big Les 2 Million more than he was already making?
les got the 2m AFTER the bcs nc.
the taf are similar to the ranturds who focus on the losses to ky and ark and totally disregard the bcs n.c.
see, you just proved my point.

tubucoco,
i agree w/ you. louisiana is the happiest state of the 50. b.r. is a great town, with n.o. just down the road.
les and wife are stuck in north ALaBaMaaaaaaaaa.
i think you are right. and i think when les goes to michigan, saban will be back. and the ranturds here will polish his knob.

- They played 2X while at LSU ('00 and '01 - Saban's first two years here and Spurrier's last two at UF). And UF drilled us both times. Not sure how fair a comparison that is though.
- Other than Nick's lie and the fact that he coaches at Bama I hold nothing against him. I don't follow him but I've never heard him speak disparingly about LSU.

Doesn't matter how the BCS is structured. Spurrier only finished 4 regular seasons with less than two losses. In 1990 he finished the regular season with two losses, but it didn't matter anyway becuase Florida was under a bowl ban. In 1991, Spurrier had one regular loss, but Washington and Miami were undefeated. Had the BCS been in place, those two teams would have played for it.In 1992, he had three losses- one in the SECCG to future title winner Bama. HAd the BCS been in place, that year would have turned out no diferently- Bama and Miami would have played. In 1993, he had two regular season losses, one to national champ Florida State. Had there been a BCS, it would likely have featured FSU and Notre Dame, both who only had one loss. Spurrier wouldn't have played for a title that year. In 1994, Spurrier finished the regular season with one loss and one tie. Nebraska and Penn State were undefeated- they would have played had there been a BCS. Spurrier wouldn't have played for a title that year. In 1995, Spurrier did play for a title and got his arse handed to him 62-24 by Nebraska. In 1996, Spurrier lucked out to even be in the game (had three teams lose ahead of him after he lost to Florida State: #3 Nebraska lost to unranked Texas in the Big 12 championship, Unbeaten Ohio St. lost to Michigan in their rivalry, and #2 and unbeaten Arizon State lost in the Rose Bowl to Ohio St.), but he made it and won his only title (in fact, had the BCS been around, the title game in 1996 would have featured undefeated FSU vs. undefeated Arizona State). In every other season at Florida, Spurrier had at least two losses. In 1997, he finished the regular season with two losses, while Michigan and Nebraska were undefeated (hell, he didn't even win the conference). In 1998, the year the BCS started, Tennessee won it, not Spurrier. in 1999, He got beat TWICE by Mike Dubose, while FSU and Va Tech were undefeated. In 2000, he finished the regular season with 2 losses, while FSU and Oklahoma were undefeated and so played in the BCS. In 2001 he had two losses and was rated by the BCS behind Miami, Nebraska, Oregon and Colorado- all teams with one loss. Now explain to me how the BCS could have possibly helped him win more titles?

C'mon Sammich. Read the above post and explain to me how the BCS would have helped Spurrier win more than one title.
