Calling them “Paper Tigers” isn’t reflection it’s criticism.

It was not quite as bad as the Troy loss a couple years ago.

You don't seem fully capable of participating in a sports message board conversation.

Teams can seem better or worse than their record indicates. LSU was most definitely not as great as their 10-2 record indicated that year. That's not downing the program or knocking their achievements. Like a previous poster mentioned, LSU just hadn't reached top-tier status yet (and wouldn't under DiNardo).

You are correct. It was a beautiful play action TD pass from Tyler to a wide open Lafleur. Can’t exactly recall the penalty but I’m thinking illegal formation or holding. We ended up missing a FG and the game was never the same after that.

Actually, LSU scored the first TD of the game in the south end zone only to have it negated by a penalty. Anyone remember why the flag was called?

I believe it was holding

My bad, was in the 50s and drizzling, not 49 degrees.

58 degrees at 2pm
.31 inches of precip for the day

BR weather for 10/6/01

Trust me, it was utterly miserable that day in shorts and a tshirt. It sticks with me.

Wasn’t it 32/34? Best performance I’ve seen against the Tigers.

You seem to be referring to the ‘97 game.

I think so, but I googled a box score. Best QBs performance I've seen in TS as well.

ETA: Rex was 22/32 for 464 and Brock Berlin was 4/9 for another 40 yards. Vaunted Saban backfield gave up 504 yards total.

Ok now what you’re doing is spin, calling them “Paper Tigers” is a pejorative term and it’s a direct quote, you used that term not me. The team went 10-2 which was much better than they were predicted to go so saying they underachieved or weren’t as good as their record indicated is the exact opposite of the truth. Maybe it’s you who doesn’t understand how to participate in a sports board conversation since instead of admitting you either made a mistake in your wording or characterization of the team you resorted to insults when confronted with your own incorrect comments.

it truly was.
that stretch was possibly my favorite.

mid 80s i fell in love with LSU football
late 80s/early 90s were brutal.
95-97 was just fun. no other way to describe it.

Herb, Faulk and Mealey (with a Diesel cameo) was an exciting offense.
there were no expectations, but we had confidence.
a loss hurt but was still fun.
that ‘97 Auburn game was an amazing experience. even with the loss.

Rex Grossman repeated the carnage in 2001. Game was over quickly.
But, like 1996 we got revenge the following year.

Man, if you can't admit LSU's 1996 record wasn't indicative of a prototypical, dominant 10-2 college football team, then I don't know what to tell you. And I'm a huge LSU fan. You probably think every undefeated mid-major team throughout history were world beaters.
