I don't know what makes people think this team was so immensely talented. Which of these guys do you expect to see in MLB? Nola, who pitched well and was a tough-luck loser, and Bregman, a freshman. Who else? This was a well-coached good group of kids that had an historically fine season. They should celebrate that without regret.

Is it CPM's fault Raph, Bregman & Christian went 0-24? I'm not sure what "adjustments" he could have made that could have, even just a little bit, changed those numbers. Raph won too many games for us over the yrs, dramatic hits, HR's, clutch plays in the outfield. This wkend was just not his wkend, nor was it Bregman's. Christian just had bad baseball luck. Give him those 2 HR's & we could be in the catsbird seat. The ballpark's size was not CPM's fault, either.

It's not his fault our heart of the lineup went 0-for-24 this weekend (Katz exluded). That is ridculous. Hell, he pulled all aces on the pitching - he did what he had to do. It's not his fault we make two errors in game one. It's not his fault Rhymes, Bregman and Ibarra had some voodoo curse on them.

The stats of this weekend were a statistical anomoly. The only thing I blame him on was his lack of psychological help. This team was tight and felt the pressure HARD. That UCLA game was a home game...they choked. Their heads were not where it needed to be.

Are you saying this team pulled the wool over our eyes for the first 66 games, only to show their true colors in the last 2.
It's sickening.

Do people seriously think Bregman, Raph, etc just decided, "Ahh frick it, let's play like shite" to piss of the fans?

It means much more to those guys than anyone typing here.

The reaction here is so different than it is for football. When the football team loses, Miles is an idiot. When the baseball team loses, the rant attacks the kids personally.

Lots of folks showing their asses in the game thread today.

PM is a lot like Miles.. IMO. He's a good man... good recruiter and he has excellent facilities to recruit too. But, he can be out-coached. I do not understand why, he will not bunt. NOt only will he not bunt.. the kids don't even seem to know how to bunt very well. PM seems to always want to play for the big inning. In The Box, that's ok, most of the time. But in the post-season.. you have to be able to play small ball when necessary.

Skip is the one of the greatest if not the greatest coach in college baseball history. CPM is good and probably great but he is no Skip, no one can ever be a skip.

I ain't sayin' people need to pump sunshine. The CWS performance hurts, people want to vent.

But to call out the coaching and in particular the players is ridiculous. As if playing in the CWS is more important to some 30-year old drunk arse than it is to the players and coaches.

The vast majority of time bunting decreases your expected run expectancy.

You seriously don't remember when PM tried to play small ball and bunt like we were CSF and it backfired and everyone was pissed and he had to apologize.for overreacting and we didnt make it to the CWS etc. I mean..it was only like..what..last year?

In other words..anything short of a CWS championship..people like you will bitch

Skip went 0-2 in 1994 because we faced the #1 pick in the draft in round 1 (Paul Wilson) and we gave up something like 11 runs in the first inning of game 2.

CPM comes from the same cut as guys like Skip Bertman as far as how to approach the game and the strategy he uses.

I think a classic example of how to compare this is the 2000 championship

LSU gets two guys on with 0 outs with Brad Cressy who was 1 for 20 something in the CWS (maybe teens I don't remember)

A CPM/Bertman/other coaches like them would swing away. (Cressy ripped a single which scored the run to win the championship)

a west coast style coach guys who coach at UCLA UCirvine CSF would bunt in that situation no matter who was at bat. (you could have Barry Bonds at bat and they would bunt)

The reason CPM doesn't give the sac bunt signal as much as other coaches in the country is because he thinks more like skip. Play for a big inning not just one run. Trust the guys who can hit the ball well to come through in the clutch. Its a high risk high reward type strategy, but LSU for 27 years using this strategy has been one of the most dominant if not the most dominant programs in college baseball.

LSU will never become a small ball team, we only do it now because of the nature of the current dead bat era.

the 2-0 hit and run signal is a call guys like CPM make. Get use to it.

This is a team loss, we didn't lose because of some wrong decisions. Our hitters slumped, it sucks, but it happened. At least we got the Omaha experience

Both losses were your fault because you didn't even bother to show up in Omaha.

I am as disappointed as anyone about the results of the last 2 games, but the hate on the game thread today was about as bad/low as it gets from the rantards. Everyone was blamed, in particular, Raph; you would swear he was some scrub, based on the negativity he received today. The bats went cold- it happens! Vandy was probably the best team this year, and they didn't even make Omaha...Fl. St didn't make it either, and they were probably better than half the Omaha teams. Just accept the fact it wasn't our year, and quit finding blame to spread around...hell, I am already on to thinking about next year, a lot of talent returning to get us back to Omaha!
