MBB has the potential to generate much more revenue with tv contracts.

Serious question. How much more revenue/profit do you expect from MBB and how much more investment will be required to produce it?

The TV contract money is there no matter how well the team does and there is only so much attendance and concessions can do. MBB needs private donors to help since some of BB's profit is distributed to other programs in the AD just like with football. That is the purpose of the AD.

OP: I think we blew pass the % of $20M House $ a long time ago. Football, WBB & Jay have their dedicated House + "new" $ - they have earned it. MBB has to do the same w/new $.

Not much more at all. We need to go buy us some players and unfortunately we are in the basement. This means we have to pay more for kids who will leave the next year if they can. I am waiting for schools to start putting these kids under long term contracts to calm that crap down

The coaching is the problem since the head coach is the one who is in charge of putting together the roster! So if the roster is not good then the head coach is to blame, same goes for the players not playing well that's on the head coach he's the one coaching them! So anyway you slice it the head coach is to blame!!

MEN'S basketball can be the equal of Football and Baseball WITH THE RIGHT COACH in here.

My non-alcohol damaged brain still has fond memories of late 70's/80's LSU basketball in the Assembly Center!

It can be like that again with the right guy!

It might be WW and it might not.

Personally, my first call would be to Tony Bennett to see if he's bored in retirement and possibly wants back in the game. If he's not interested, then talk to Wade and others.

A lot of our fans think that to be a very good basketball program we need to be on par with Kentucky and Kansas but in reality what you need to do is qualify for the NCAA tourney every year. Once you can do that one run or two can change your program forever. Arkansas is still living off of a run that happened over 30 years ago. You get a coach who can get you into March and the program will change.

I would start with moving everything that gets invested into wbb (a sport that loses money) over to mbb (a sport that makes money)

It seemed to me that men’s basketball was getting a generous cut of the revenue sharing money. It was baseball that was getting screwed.
I am a big fan of KimMulkey’s program, but I was surprised that they were getting such a big chunk.

$5 or 6 mil

This will buy you 5 mediocre players or maybe 2 good ones if you get a discount.

So 15mil gets you a good starting lineup? Wonder how so many teams pull that off spending much less.

If anyone cares to actually do the work, one will see over the first 3 seasons (not this season) a lot of Florida's and LSU's signing classes looked pretty similar. Florida was signing mostly 75+ ranked transfers....just like LSU. On the HS side of things Florida only signed ONE top 100 player in Golden's first 3 classes. McMahon signed SIX.

Yet the on-court results couldn't be more different. One was the national champion in year 3. The other had the worst record in the SEC during that period.

Golden has had a plan from day 1 on how he wants to build his roster and how the pieces fit into place. McMahon couldn't figure out if he wanted to go heavy in the portal or with HS signees. Basically, he just tried to sign the best players he could with no real regard for how they fit and then tried to force them to play in one unmalleable approach...even if it didn't fit the strength of the roster.

If you are simply going to sign all of the best players you can, then you have to adapt your approach to fit what your players do best. That may be a little different from year to year. But if you are going to be married to one specific style of play, then you have to sign guys who best fit that specific style of play. Somehow, we've hit the sweet spot of doing neither. THAT is how you only have 15 SEC wins in (nearly) 3.5 years.

I’d like to give the rev share % and extra nil we give to MBB currently to Jay and the baseball team.
