given he and CEO agreed to $3.5M

Do you think he'll go over $2.5M to get coach with some skins on the wall?

depends on how much it takes to get his guy. He's not going to overpay but if he gets a guy who's valued up there I think he pays it.

I don't think he'll go 2.5. around 2 is probably what we will have to pay for some of the major candidates.

I did notice that he already dropped the standards by saying that he's looking just looking for a coach that will "regularly" get us into the 68 team tournament. How's that for excellence

Well we haven't done that since the 80s so I guess that's a start

What do you want 2 million at Villanova for No.1 Seed? Do you want 7 million at Duke and Kentucky for No.2 Seeds? Its not the money its getting the job done. Last year the 7 millions watched the 2 million win the NC!!

This. Also, if there's one thing we've seen that Alleva doesn't like, it's when an agent tries to squeeze more money out of LSU after an offer has been made. Unless LSU hires a successful coach away from a name school (not likely) then $2 million seems like a probable ceiling.

I agree. However....

He's not going to overpay

He's overpaying Ogeron by about $2 to $2.5 million (based on Ogeron's market value at the time he got the permanent job)

but if he gets a guy who's valued up there I think he pays it.

I hope so. He paid Jones a million to leave NTU when Jones wasn't getting any other offers to make more than the $600k he was making at NTU. He then bumped up Jones to $1.5 million for essentially making the NIT (again, at a time no one else was going to give Jones $1 million, let alone $1.5 million)

With that in mind, I'm hoping the floor on this search would be $2.5 million (unless you get a guy like Steve Forbes, Keatts at UNCW or Kermit Davis). Considering you just paid $1.5 mill for consistent underachieving and an empty PMAC, I would think you would be willing to tack on at least another million to actually win and bring some excitement to the program.

F King will convince him to settle on a lesser coach for just south of what they were (over)paying Jones

I think he will pay what is necessary to get the coach he wants. I hope it is Musselman.

All within reason, though.

The fact that he's cheap is a big misconception.
