Not trying to flame but I just don't see this club making it in the NCAA field although the Simmons factor is in play. Anythings possible but looking at a worse case NIT scenario, does 17 or 18 wins gets you in?

Honestly, how does anyone get excited for the NIT?

Would not watch an LSU NIT game. And I watch every basketball game.

It's not about excitement, I'm legitimately curious how many wins gets you in the field. It's worst case but it's a possibility.

Just having Simmons on the team gets us an invite to the National Invitational Tournament.

We are tied second in SEC and took the #1 team to the last shot. We have a shot at tourney so just worry about it

After the Ball State heart-breaker in 2002, I was done with the Not Important Tournament.

It depends. It is like the Independence Bowl in football. Remember that one time we were all soooo excited to be invited to it? And now if we ever go there it warrants a coach getting fired.

That year Brady-Ball went and beat Iowa on the road in the NIT then came home to play Ball State, the PMAC was almost packed for that game. The fans were starved for a glimmer of hope and light.

This year, not so much as far as the NIT is concerned. I would be happy with declining the invite if it comes to that.

Losing to #1 Oklahoma by only 2 after leading the entire game is not the only reason why LSU won't go to the Big Dance.. choking against Marquette and Houston.. getting our breaks beat off by College of Carolina and losing to NC State and WF as well as UF will be reasons as to why we won't be in the tourney. All quality wins down the drain.. with only one or MAYBE two to our name (UK and Vandy).

Even after that heartbreaker tonight an NIT bid would be underperforming

The expectation apparently is that we would lose today and still be last-4 in so we just need to take care of business in the SECT and get in

Yes, and if we go on a little run, which is very feasible, we will move up.

Our RPI is improving and will continue to do so.

We have the most chicken little fan base on the planet.

Although this is a true statement, the fact is the NIT is a more realistic possibility than the NCAA's. Regardless if anyone cares or not.
