As John Smoltz kept saying over and over again, there should be no pitch count!

Smoltz was referring to putting a pitcher on a pitch count and pulling him after he throws that number.

hmm i gotcha

well i guess i kinda agree with a certain # but IMO there's gotta be a point when you should the pull pull the pitcher, keep him healthy and not to hurt himself

but i was never close to a big leaguer

Texas ran their pitchers for 150 in 2009. Don't know how many mccune threw tonight but he's good until next friday!

not sure on the pitch count but he had some short innings, including a 4 pitch inning.

They did.......and he was complete garbage the rest of the year.

Not a horrible amount for a guy who's a starter, but hope we can develop enough of a pen where we can save some of those pitches for later on in the year.

it's more accurate to say he wasn't very effective the rest of the year. it is also accurate to say he wasn't particularly effective before those 14 innings against BC.

I HATE seeing our guys (especially the freshmen) getting 120+ pitches. I cringed a little seeing McCune come out for the 9th. Same w/ Gausman coming out for the 8th last wknd (think he threw 120+ as well).

Hopefully Ott & the rest of the pen can get things figured out so CPM doesn't feel the need to stretch these guys out like that anymore.

To me the number of pitches isn't all that important, but how he looked out there. He did not look to be laboring at any time out there and still had some good life on his stuff in the 9th inning. And he really didn't have what pitchers call "stressful innings". I think he may have only ha one or two innings where there was more than one runner on base.

He did seem to get stronger as the game went on.

The 4 pitch inning helped. Think the inning after that was less than 10.

Just don't wanna make 120+ a weekly occurance
