Yes not ever going to be like the past. I have lost a lot of love for the game and yes I know kids were getting money under the table but this has turned into the Pro Football Minor Leagues . I say just rent the college stadium to the pro teams and let them pay for the results . Sucks but it is not want we have loved.

I clicked this topic and was stunned !
7 pages of everyone pretty much in agreement and I in agreement with them ! There are likely 10’s of 1000’s out there not on a forum thinking the same. I wonder if Fans new outlook could affect positive change in what is undoubtedly a total mess

I think alot of us are getting to this point.

For me, I'm probably just going to watch the games going forward. Cut it off at half if we're getting our arse handed to us and BK is still keeping receipts. I wont track recruiting or any of that bullshite.

Throw all my energy to baseball.

Again, I’ve said before I fully support NIL. For years the entire ncaa system has reaped the benefits of these kids likenesses and then come down on schools because they paid the fly his parents down to see him or silly shite like that. If these kids are smart (and my understanding is the schools are giving them plenty of opportunities to engage with advisors), this is life changing money since most of them still will never set foot on a pro field. And let’s not act like schools were already doing this stuff in various forms under the table, and some were able to be much more egregious about it than others.

The problem lies in the transfer portal. Objectively the transfer rules sorely needed to be revisited at least. A kid makes a decision and circumstances change or it doesn’t work out and then they lose a year of eligibility to try to do better. There are always exceptions, but having a real conversation about it was probably the right thing to do.

But with no restrictions on transfers coupled with basically no restrictions on nil you have what amounts to kids having the ability to at any time declare themselves unrestricted free agents and sell out to the highest bidder. Arguably it’s one of the reasons baseball has fallen drastically in popularity when teams can just buy championships.

Giving up is strong, but controlled apathy is where I'm at.

Agreed. I wish all NIL money came with a contract that required the athlete to pay back all monies received if they transfer. The portal should be limited to one transfer per college career as well.

Add coaching contracts being tied to results, and their win % (or whatever stat) dropping below a certain point resulting in them being fired for cause to eliminate buyouts of idiots like Coach O.

I agree NIL has ruined this game. Can the teams have players sign 2-3 year contracts just like the pros. This could eliminate players bouncing around to other teams after one year.

STFU pussy! Losing has a bigger impact than the money. Who wants to stay committed to a dysfunctional LOSER like a BK ran program.
If that's the case, why did BU choose Michigan?

I gave up my season tickets when LSU hired Coach O. Been the best 6 years not having to worry about getting up early to be out to tailgate. I can watch all the college games at my house. Tiger Stadium is just not what it used to be for most games. When I first got my tickets in 2000, I knew everyone around me. After TAF was initiated, it took about 5 years and only knew one person next to me. It got to the point, I had new people each week sitting next to me who didn't know how to find their seats are all they were interested in was taking a picture in Tiger Stadium and were out by halftime. It was a good ride for 14 years.

Recruits didn’t start this system. The model was established by bama, LSU, USC, and a small handful of other schools at the administrative level. The recruits responded to the offers. LSU became a premier program and others followed. Currently we are realizing that it was a successful approach before the rest of the world caught on, but Louisiana is a poor state without the resources of commercially more advanced areas, and we are hard pressed to keep up with the competition that we helped start.

How ironic that in a thread of “former fans” dogging the current mercenary system and lack of player loyalty to team, you seem totally OK with a baseball team loaded with hired guns, one-&dones, and transfers winning a championship for “our school”…
