I love LSU football with a passion, but all this portal nonsense , NIL, recruits having no loyalty to their commitmen

My passion for LSU football has started to wain and is all due to NIL and portal nonsense. It's a financial windfall for these young players and unfortunately I am starting to feel about college football as I do the NFL. Will watch when they put a product on the field worth giving my attention, but when I see players half assing and no loyalty to the school I love and spend my money on, well, I develop the same attitude.

Such a shame because even in the Miles years I longed for the football season.

There was a time not too long ago when I’d wake up on Saturday morning and watch College Gameday and football games until after midnight.
I really don’t care anymore and it’s because of NIL and the Transfer Portal. I’ll watch LSU, but not with the same passion I used to. I caught bits and pieces of other games when flipping the channel only because I love football. But until they put a cap on NIL and set some rules on transfers, I just can’t get passionate about it.

I’m content to watch baseball and WBB under elite coaches who have the potential for dynasties while CFB burns.

Football is mercenaries at this point. Those other sports are more true to the model of college athletics we grew up watching, as ridiculous money doesn’t have to be involved to compete in them.

Let the billionaire supported programs continue to spend their cash on football while we create dynasties in Baseball and WBB.

Not to mention the fact that the alleged “championship” playoffs are dictated by television ratings instead of merit.

2011, 2014, 2017, 2020 and 2023 were all
corrupted.

I gave up my season tickets after 25+ seasons this year. I still love LSU and will watch every game, but it’s time to spend my money on other things that I enjoy. I’ll still attend a game here or there, but that’s about it.

Good for you. Honestly, a half empty Tiger stadium is the one thing that will get the greedy admins off their asses and start spending big in NIL in a hurry!

I earmarked all my NIL donations this year to baseball. Might as well support a program that is serious about competing.

Anyone else getting to that point?

We have had our season tickets for a good while now. In the off season we always try to upgrade. Loving our seats we have had for three years now. Down low in the South end zone with great folks around us. We make just about every game and always have fun.

Yet beyond a few skill players I don't know the names more than ten or so players on the entire team. I once followed the recruiting and knew all about them before they ever signed. I would comment about different players by name every play. Defense, offense, special teams.

Now I simply do not care to pay such close attention. I'm very much disconnected from the program I love so much.

Those handful of Saturdays in the fall still mean a lot to me but the players no longer command my attention span.

College football isn’t made for old school fans anymore. It’s a TV program that looks to draw in casuals and large market viewers who are captive consumers in order to milk ad dollars. The sacred cow that was nurtured and fattened by die hard fans has been slaughtered. People are just pillaging the carcass.

I will follow LSU football to my death...and probably continue to buy season tickets along the way...I have faith that someone beyond my pay grade will step in and fix the system.

But I will say this: these high dollar deals with incoming freshmen can lead to locker room issues if these players underachieve...will be interesting to watch.

This is why I am not devastated by the fact that LSU isn't matching offers for guys like Underwood. I am disappointed we did not get him, but we were never going to outbid Oracle's money. Even if we could, what happens in the locker room?

I loved college football. I’d watchUNLV play San Jose state at 11pm just because it was on. All this NIL bullshite and portal has freaking ruined the game for me personally. That on top of the mess we find ourselves in here at LSU I don’t even much give a rats red arse any longer . Sadly it’s changed forever .

Years ago the choking against USC, A&M, and UF would have had me in a semi bad mood for at least a day or two. Now I give it about an hour and I just forget about it. I used to try to make at least 1 game a year. I haven’t been to one since 2019 besides the New Orleans matchup with FSU which made me even more not want to spend that time and money on it. College football is dying.

If you really think about it, from a marketing perspective, the current system of annual free agency is at odds with the fans who support a program. The annual turnover of players will cause fans (not all but some) to lose interest. Fans like to cheer for players, particularly players who picked their school.

The ability to bounce on any commitment is a bad life skill. Things don’t go your way so leave isn’t the best way to do life.
