re: How many of you are about to give up on college football?

Nope, hell I couldnt name you the teams in contention for the playoff if I wasnt listening to talk radio some. If you woulda paid me a million dollars to name Arizona State as a possible playoff contender I would have whiffed, and until last week wasnt aware the SMU or Clemson were even in consideration.
I love LSU football with a passion, but all this portal nonsense , NIL, recruits having no loyalty to their commitment , and current/past players having no loyalty to our team has put a sour taste in my mouth.
I have never liked BK and each year recruiting and players transferring have ate me up. I’m getting to the point to where I don’t want to follow college football in any way shape or form.
Anyone else getting to that point?

My hope is that when a school come in and buys out top player away from another school because Bowie asked him to and happens to be 2nd richest man in USA, something has to be done by lawmakers that make every school equal - and not about NIL money. Now they are buying a 5 star committed to BAMA I read today. This ruins the sport and take away fairness and equality. Lawmakers screw thing up worse than anyone in DC. This likely needs to be a BIG arse lawsuit court decision that I hope would be fair. Even Tom Brady was in the mix with our QB commit in Michigan.

I still pull for LSU but if we go 6-6 or 12-0 it just doesn’t matter they much anymore

Never in a million years thought I'd agree with this but I'm starting to feel the same way.
It's bad. CFB was the sport I cared the most about since high school, but the past 2-3 years have really soured me.

Had season tickets for 16 years and gave them up five years ago. Got tired of fighting the crowds and traffic. Then along came NIL and the transfer portal and I lost a lot more interest.
Now players control the purse strings and if they don’t get what they want then they jump ship.
Well F them and their greedy, slimly
lack of character. I can now spend my falls traveling and enjoying seeing parts of the country I haven’t had the opportunity see before. I can check scores on my phone but my days of fretting over a bunch of 18-22 year olds who don’t give a shite about LSU are over.

In days past there was kind of an attachment between the players and the fans. You felt like you knew them. They were part of a family. You followed their careers while they played for the Tigers. It’s not like that any more. Very sad what has happened. It’s a shame what money does to some people.

I’m a lifelong diehard LSU fan. I’ve never been more apathetic

Just about there

I gave up halftime Alabama.
Why should I spend 4.5 hours watching my favorite team get their arse whooped when I couldn't even tell you who half the guys are on it due to revolving door roster, the undisciplined and highly penalized teams (most likely due to no synergy from revolving door roster) constant penalties and stoppages of play.
CFB is a HORRIBLE product that is living off of tradition alone at this point.

Stopped the big support a few years ago.
LSU football has been such a big part of my life since I was a kid growing up in the 60's. Thru the years, winning or losing would affect how my work week would start out. The excitement of a big win, talking smack with fellow SEC team fans, was so much fun. I never thought my love for college football and mainly LSU, would wane. I think it started with the rumblings of wokeness, then we had the 'all about me attitude' where these kids started holding a press conference to announce their choice. But then, the press conference became more of a FU to some school or schools in a shitty way.
Now, we have NIL. As we have seen over the past week, especially for LSU, this has become all about $$$. Zero loyalty, kids will now go to the highest bidder. A commitment is now just a way for other schools to up their offer. I hope these teams with open checkbooks fall on their arse with these kids, but college football is hurting, can't continue this way. Meanwhile, through it all, the fans suffer, and I no longer feel the same love I once did. The fact that I can sit here and say I don't even care if I miss watching a game or two is telling! Sad times...

I noticed it this year. I wasn't as loud at games, I wasn't as mad at losses, I wasn't as hyped for wins. I've even told my wife that I am considering not renewing our season tickets and maybe only going to 1 or 2 games a year, since it's not worth our money anymore. Idk. Hopefully, it's gets better. But doesn't feel that way.

I’ve been recording games on DVR this year. Used to, I needed to watch the games live. I’m not even looking forward to our bowl game or next season

This era of football is horrible for fans.

I find the 4 hour length of games is driving me faster away from football than is the glorified 7-on-7 gameplay, NIL bidding wars or selfishness/lack of team loyalty.
The commercials, timeouts, penalties/excessive flags, injury timeouts, replay/review timeouts, penalties on 3rd&long/extra points/punts/kickoffs, etc have forced me to DVR games and I don't start watching until after halftime so I can fast-forward thru these grueling delays until I'm basically caught up to live broadcast by the 2 minute timeout.
Sometimes, I wait until it's over to watch it or I just end up watching a 15 or 20 minute YouTube highlight/condensed game. But if the score is out of hand, I may not even watch that. I still haven't seen a single play from the Bama or the Florida games.

I felt it first in MLB a few years ago, then the NFL and now it's ten times worse in CFB. You turn around in September and you don't even recognize your team anymore. And what you thought was your team loses/gains a whole different roster for next year. Hard to find loyalty in that.
Posted on 12/3/24 at 4:32 pm to CatsGoneWild
It’s not easy to quit something that’s embedded in you since a kid. I said I was done after the underwood thing. To my credit I didn’t watch a down of college football the vandy game weekend. But I was right back in it for the OU game
Posted on 12/3/24 at 4:33 pm to CatsGoneWild
Yes, loyalty is out the door. It’s no longer “college” football. It’s money grab mercenaries scrambling around from team to team from year to year. Hard for coaches to recruit and build a team anymore. One team can be hot shots one year and a. dumpster fire the next.
Posted on 12/3/24 at 4:38 pm to CatsGoneWild
You'll get excited again next year before the Clemson game, wake up, watch Gameday, get all fored up for the game, then we lose and you'll quit again for 2 weeks rhen do it all over again. You can't just turn it off

It sucks because it nullifies our natural advantage that we enjoyed for a hundred years. That is over.
