How do you view Saban, now that so much time has passed?

The dumb “Saban would’ve never left” thread got me wondering about the fans current feeling.

For me, I largely am thankful for what he did to establish LSU and allay the foundation for the run we went on.

Yeah, it’s still fun to beat him and it’s fun to watch him when he doesn’t win, but that’s only because it means bad things are happening to Bama. I don’t now, and never really did, view him as a traitor.

It bothered me when he first went to Bama and started winning but he’s the greatest college coach of all time and he was great with us.

If I was a Bama fan, it would be so amusing to see how obsessed with Saban LSU fans still are after all this time.

You will get lots of downvotes but you said nothing wrong.

Saban is a legend. A bit of an arse but also a God fearing Catholic happily married for decades.

If Skip can respect him, so can I.

That said, RTWFU.

He signed a big, fat contract, and said he wasn't leaving LSU, and then he left the next year. If he wanted to make the jump, I can't hold that against anyone. But he didn't have to sign that contract, if that was the case. He signed it, and then screwed us.

That's why he's a traitor, in my view. And he further tanked his reputation, character-wise, when he then quit the job he left us for, because it was apparently too hard.

Literally every person in recorded history would've taken more money.

That is such a ridiculous standard to hold against someone.

You never fail to be a really ignorant poster.

Did you even read what I said?

If you're not committed, don't sign that contract. We're not talking about the contract he signed to come to LSU, this is the contract EXTENSION that made him the HIGHEST PAID coach in America.

And your "literally" comment isn't even true, because lot's of guys have turned down extra money to stay where they are, because they are committed to where they are. If Saban wasn't, that's fine. Then just leave. Don't sign a big fat extension and then bolt almost immediately.

You mean the contract he got because winning the national championship triggered the clause in his original contract that made him the highest paid coach in the NCAA?

You expect him to be like "naw, I'm trying to go for the NFL so let's just ignore that clause."?

Lol at you calling me ignorant then not knowing how any of this works.

What could have been. 2006 2007 then after that dear god who knows. The fan in me wishes he’d stayed and national championship or bust with minimal bust would have been amazing. But I just don’t see us being the American enemy for winning so many. Versus what happened in 2019. A Bama fan hasn’t experienced that ride and feeling since 2009 let’s be honest.

He signed a 7 year extension. The clause would have done him no good if he hadn't signed the contract.

And you just said it before. He left LSU and got MORE money. LSU didn't have to put that clause in his contract, but they did, and they not only upheld their end of the deal, they gave him a long contract. Why sign that extension? Why not just leave? He clearly had his sights set on the NFL, as LSU gave him everything he could possibly have wanted, to stay.

Way to make a simple concept seem hard. Par for the course.

I thank him for what he did while he was here, no question. I despise him for going back not only to the SEC but to the SEC west.

Of all the schools he could be hired at, he picks Alabama and then lies when he says he won't be the coach there.

He's arguably the best collegiate football coach out there but his actions rubbed me the wrong way. I enjoy seeing him lose now.

I guess what it comes down to is that it could have been us if he wasn't so hungry to chase NFL dreams. He was terrible in the NFL.

II don't wish any ill will on the guy but I'm definitely not a fan of him anymore. He burned that bridge a long time ago. He can lose every game as far as I'm concerned.

Great HC. And even better recruiter.

Overrated for X/Os. Still has no clue how to defend the spread offenses of today even with the talent advantage he has in literally every single game.

Respect him for adapting on the offensive side.

Here's what else really stands out:
a) The paucity of double-digit losses he's had.
b) After seemingly every 'crushing' defeat, Bama seems to always rebound stronger.
c) The stability he maintains. Bama fans don't know how good they have it. They exchange coordinators and never miss a beat.

He was committed, until Wayne Huizinga opened up the checkbook and said come to the NFL.

The best CFB coach. I admire his intense focus and process philosophy. Also his disinterest in making his personality more socially acceptable. To me, he's at his best when he's just his authentic self.

He has said many times, in one way or another, that he regrets leaving LSU. That time is special to him. He had a vision/plan in his mind for how to build a CFB program and it came to fruition with LSU.

I had the opportunity to spend a fairly significant amount of time around the man while he was at LSU and I have no qualms about saying that he was hugely responsible for dragging our program into a much higher status and level of play that ever. Facilities, recruiting, assistants and the overall success of Lsu football are so
Much greater than prior to 2000. We are more respected and feared because of Saban.

As far as the guy, he appears to have mellowed significantly since 2005. However, the guy was often a prick when he was here and often for little or no reason. However, I played for and have a great deal of loyalty to several successful coaches that are the same way and it gets the job done.

No, I don’t like the way he handled leaving for the NFL, but that’s business. Also, his decision to then take the BAMA.job was the best move for him and his family and I don’t blame him.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loathe Alabama and their arrogant, self-aggrandizing fans! But I also know, just like when Bryant finally left, they will crater and I will really enjoy seeing those pricks melt when his replacement can’t keep up the same level of success.

All that said, I have to say that, based upon the wins & losses, he’s gotta be one of the top three college coaches of all time, if not the best.

So, brother, in my book, it’s a toss up on how o “feel” about Coach Saban. I am back and forth on whether I think he’s;

1) A Dwarf from the pit of hell: or

2) A Ruthless little Midget….

FU@K SABAN!

FU@K THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA: and

FU@K THAT ENTIRE STATE!

You’re either with us, good, bad and ugly, ot the FU@K YOU TOO!!!

GEAUX TIGERS!!!
