As kind of a dumbass who would have had a longer tenure if he would have fired Tepper or never hired him.
People do forget that he left a bunch of NFL talent for Saban, though.

Eh. Saban was widely regarded in coaching circles as an up and coming damn good coach. His record at MSU was pretty good considering they were on probation.

He's the guy who laid the foundation dor $$$$$. If he hadn't been so stubborn about Tepper and the defense, he might have been LSU's coach much longer.

Nick never had a losing season and his teams had seen postseason play.
That's more than a smidge different than what DiNardo had done before coming to LSU.

He crushed the porcelain in the LSU Field House bathroom once and I unfortunately entered as he was walking out.
Thought he was a pretty good coach though.

Bring Back the Magic Game, Cecil Collins, 28-21, Purple Pants, Tepper - out.
The Indy Bowls whipping Saban and ND (after they spanked us at home) were also very memorable.

He had the hair of a ferret, and did Ford Truck and Bank One commercials.

Great restaurant. Now it's called Ruffinos.
I always assumed Dinardo's and Ruffino's were both TJ Moran's, who basically just hired Dinardo and later Ruffin to just walk around the restaurant like a bunch of toolbags, like Ruffin does now.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they're just really walking logos.
Plus it allows for a place for current and former LSU players to be able to walk around and let middle aged white people worship them in the bar area, then drop about $100 on dinner.

5–6, 4–7, 5–6, and 5–6 at Vandy in the early 90s is basically = 6–5–1, 6–6, and 7–5, at Mich State in the mid 90s.
This is not a knock on Saban OR Emmert, if anything, it's basically a testament to both. Saban was clearly not some much greater known commodity than Dinardo was, when each were hired.
I get the point about money, but that was more about the changing face of college football than just LSU.

I forgot to add that DiNardo is responsible for us wearing the white jerseys at home. He had to petition the NCAA and stuff. He grabbed ahold of the LSU history real fast.
I have to say, the Chinese Bandit package his staff implemented to beat #1 Florida was awesome.

Dinardo was good enough to get LSU from rock bottom to a middle tier team again and most importantly restored some excitement around the program. There just wasn't much interest in the early 90's.
He was part of the building block of the foundation but man, that Tepper fiasco was so frustrating.

Very good coach. Not as good at hiring assistants. Best achievement: brought the white jerseys back to LSU home games!

"but was always up and down each week...."
Yep---I went to the Ole Miss fiasco the week after one of the greatest wins ever against Florida.
In the snowy Independence Bowl, Lou Tepper looked like a genius, but from then on it was one disaster after another.

Nope. Some fans are so far up sabans arse they refuse to see it. Saban won because of saban, miles won because of saban.
Funny cus dinardo had future nfl hof. The cubbard was far from bare for saban.

He was the head coach for 4 of my undergrad seasons as a student.
Superior-in-talent LSU teams were literally getting the floor mopped with them by the likes of Ole Miss and Kentucky my Junior year.
In short, I hate the man.

Good coach who understood what LSU needed to start doing to get back to National prominence. Saban was very much the beneficiary of DiNardo's recruiting and the groundwork he laid.
Too loyal to his coaches and could not make the hard call to get rid of some when it needed to be done. In the end, this led to his downfall. He still has bad feelings about being fired from LSU, which is a shame....I would love to see him back on campus being honored for his work

1-0 vs Saban.
GD was also the first coach at LSU to win 3 bowl games in consecutive years.

He may be a nice guy but a poor excuse for HC or CEO.
Rich Rodriguez was begging to be the OC, instead Dinardo promoted an inept WR Coach. The rest is history. Any who has warm feelings toward Dinardo should be reincarnated as a Tulane fan.
O Fer SEC play, in his last year, is not magical to me.
