How do they have such a hard time getting the play calls in on Offense?

It seemed that having Cam on the sidelines really didn't help much with getting the play calls in. They had to take a time out after actually gaining some momentum because it took forever to get the next play in to Harris. Nothing like having an entire team stand out on the field and stare at the coaches waiting for them to do something. It's almost like Cam and Miles are waiting till the play is over then playing rock/paper/scissors to figure out what to call next.
Guess it's just another point in the long list of ineptitude of this Offense.

It has to be first translated from Huttese

Always been an issue under Miles. He wants to run the clock and make the offense stare over at the sideline with less than 10 seconds on the playclock to see if they want to change a play. Has led to countless wasted time outs and delay of game penalties over the years. Not saying we need to play hurry up, but there's no reason to try and always use at least 35 seconds of a 40 second play clock.

The play takes long to get in because it has to travel from Cam over to Les then through Area 51 then to the signal caller on the sidelines then to Harris.

If this is not perfectly clear to everyone now, all offensive play calls go through Miles. Having Cameron on the sideline but still wasting crucial timeouts and challenging the play clock numerous times proves that Miles either accepts or vetoes Cameron's play calls, each and every down.

Bingo, and this is exactly the issue that will lose his job for him. He does not know how to call plays yet he mingles in his coordinator's business and screws him up.
This is why the stupid arse offense looks so disjointed and lost, you have to get into a rhythm to keep the other team on their heels. If ole Elmer Fudd hasn't figured this out yet, then I have nothing else to tell him.

Does anyone else find it hilarious that Cam has a double-sided 11x16 chart of plays in his hands and we still only manage to use 10 of them?

It didn't seem to settle Harris, that's for sure.

It was an issue before, and it still is now.
They make constant package substitutes for the skill players, and sometimes those packages aren't decided until late, thus making the playcall process slower.
Obviously, each formation has a specific skill player package, but in addition, specific plays in those formations call for different skill players, usually whether its a run/screen or pass.
It makes for chaos on the sidelines at times.
ETA: All the plays don't have to "go through" Miles per se, but he listens and chimes in at times, which can inevitably lead to confusion about the package of players on the field, as well as the play call.

The problem is process. Miles loves to use the "check with me" pre snap option wherein the QB has to look to the sidelines to get an oK on the play or if has to audible out and then select from a predetermined check-off. In which case he also has to direct traffic on formations. You saw his frustration with that after a series on Saturday where he was jumping all over a receiver on the sideline

Maybe that's the problem with Cam. He's used to the NFL game clock and didn't adapt?

One side is a color coded diagram of Toss Right. The other side is a color coded diagram of Toss Left.

This is called telegraphing the plays. Oh look, Guice in in at "WR", I wonder if he is going to get the ball...

Les calls run or pass.
Cam picks a play.
Les either green lights the call or has Cam pick another one.
Call gets to Harris.
Team lines up
Harris waits for check from the coaches.
Regardless of original play call, Les checks into a run play.
Cam relays the check to Harris.
Harris changes the play.
Play clock winds under :04 seconds
Les calls second time out with 12:43 remaining in the first quarter.

Very complex scheme
There shouldn't be anything complex when your play calls consist of run left, run right, have your QB scramble for his life when the defense knows it's a pass play cause Fournette isn't in the game.

Why do you think the toss dive is the most called play? In the course of Cam's mind fumbling through the process of picking a play, he realizes the clock is running out and says: "Oh, frick it. Pitch it to Leonard."
