Get Darryl, the "Tiger Whisperer" out there to just ASK him to get in the trailer. He can get that cat to do all sorts of stuff.

I think it’s time to call in Seigfreid and Roy for a consult.

Okay, let Mike skip few feedings, and then drop an Angola death row inmate down through the roof of his pad.

Obviously, you all need a tiger sensitivity course

If Mike doesn't want to come out for homes games then we should take him on the road and scare the crap out of other teams.

So I did a little bit of thinking on this. Perhaps the real solution isn't to only rely on Mike VI. I wonder if it would be possible and or feasible to keep a second tiger at say the vet school. That way if the real Mike won't come out of his cage you would potentially have a back up.
I realize that you could still have two shy tigers on the same day, but at least you could be increasing your chances. Besides it could be a good excuse for someone to do something at that tourist trap gas station that has the live tiger.

Mike IV was the last tiger(and will be, forever) who was coerced to roar by force (a broom handle in some instances, which he typically broke by swatting it with his paw).

Serious question - Were they just poking him with the broom handle to annoy him to get him to roar? If so, I don't see the big deal.

Why not drug his lazy arse on Friday. Load him up, and let him wake up in the cage on Sat.

According to a recent article in the Advocate, his handlers have never heard him roar. They have been trying several new techniques to get him to load in the trailer but apparently, they aren't working too well. He made it to 6 games last year, as I recall. He won't make that many this year.

Yep. The same article said he isn't seen on gamedays because the crowds make him not want to get into the trailer even more.

So we have a mascot that you can't see when you come to campus on gameday, doesn't like to get in his trailer to be shown off, and doesn't roar.

We might as well just buy a tabby to replace Mike.

Mike V roared at a plush stuffed tiger.

As I understand it, they poked it in there and rattled it around to annoy him. There was no intent (at least the last few years) to actually poke him with it. When particularly cranky, he would snap it into pieces with his massive paw.

I was undergrad at the end of the Mike IV era - I have mixed feelings, because I did like the roar. It really got the crowd charged up.

However, how would you like it?

If someone poked me with a chopstick I would grab it and break it as well. Seems like a small price to pay with all of the other care and benefits that he gets is all. Not like they are beating him or anything. Just annoying him. Whatever.

I understand the size difference between a tiger and an eagle but elephants can be trained to do tricks so why can't a tiger be trained to walk into a cage? Not like we're asking him to ride a unicycle.

That would be fricking sweet!

1) find a female cat in heat
2) tie her to your arse
3) hop into Mike's cage

Just enjoy him for what he is, a wild animal we're fortunate to have on campus. Hopefully most of us have evolved from the era when they kept a tiger in a tiny cage and prodded him to roar for the amusement of drunken idiots in the stands.
