5 years ago it was 1 guy maybe now it's just another guy throwing 100

And LSU could probably field a decent basketball team. How many 6’5”+ guys we got?

Nolan Ryan threw 104 on his last ever pitch. He was 48.

They were saying earlier in the game that there have been advancement or more focus on velocity training in recent history.

With the old jugs gun the velocity was measured closer to the plate. The current version measures it closer to the pitcher when the ball is moving faster.

Daxton’s been working with his pitching coach since age 4, son…

Chase Shores has the bionic ligament in his throwing arm.

100% BS lol Ryan fastest pitch ever thrown was 100.8. Lester alot people on TD don't like you and to be honest I think some of your comments are interesting. Ryan never hit 104 and that's not my opinion its a fact.

The mound in Hoover is higher than normal (not sure why). But that will add a MPH or two.

not sure if serious
the guns were different back then they were more accurate

Part of it are the different radar guns used now and where are the pitch speed is “tracked” (pitcher’s release point vs when crossing the plate)

That is the biggest thing. Ben McDonald has discussed this also. Pitchers didn’t magically start throwing 3-5 mph faster a few year ago. The guns tracking have changed along with other adjustments. A guy like Shores would still be 97-98 with the old guns, but probably not quite touching 100.

Just to stir the pot…. Below is per ChatGPT
Nolan Ryan is widely believed to have thrown the fastest pitch in MLB history. His most famous fastball was recorded at:
100.9 mph (162.4 km/h) — measured by radar in 1974.
However, this pitch was clocked 10 feet in front of home plate, not at the point of release like modern radar guns do. When adjusted for modern standards (release point velocity), it’s estimated his pitch would have been around:
108.1 mph (174.0 km/h)
This would make it arguably the fastest pitch ever recorded in professional baseball. For comparison, the fastest modern MLB pitch (as of 2024) is:
• 105.8 mph by Aroldis Chapman in 2010, measured at release

Kids are now lab rats chasing velocity from 10U or sooner.
Throwing that hard year round with an elbow that can’t handle those forces is fueling the TJ growth in younger and younger arms.
