Yes, I'm biased w/ a purple N gold slant. But being as objective as possible, a few observations: ALA should not be in this game, it should've been OK ST. It really is NOT fair to LSU to win the SEC West, SEC, play an extra game, and STILL have to beat a team they already beat in their stadium. OK, boo hoo, it is what it is. There is no doubt that ALA is the SECOND best team in college football - they are clearly better than Stanford or OK ST. LSU will win in the Superdome next week b/c (1) despite what anyone says, LSU DOES have an advantage playing in N.O. (the Big Easy is a huge LSU town), and, playing on turf gives LSU an advantage (LSU is faster.) Mano y mano, Saban is a better coach than Miles, but Miles has the better staff. The Tigers will be ready and will show ALA a few things they haven't seen before. The Tigers have not come this far to lose. Of course, it would not be a huge surprise if ALA won, but it ain't going to happen. The reason many of the so-called experts pick ALA is b/c they cannot accept that Miles is a great coach in his own right, and they cannot accept that Saban can be beat THREE TIMES IN A ROW by the same team. They are doubting Thomas' who won't believe it until they see it (and they'll see it next wk.)

You realize that LSU played one more game than OK St, as well?

But OK ST didn't lose to LSU, and, OK ST WON its conference. Without a playoff, a championship of a major conference (arguably the second-best conference after the SEC) should count for something.

Paragraph One

I'm saying, purely on X's and O's, Saban is a "better" coach than Miles. However, Miles hires better assistants/coordinators, and is able to retain them b/c he isn't such a dick to work for, as Saban. Miles, overall, I would agree with you, is a better overall head coach, from a program-wide perspective.

Paragraph Two

Hence, my use of the phrase "mano y mano." If I were a head coach hiring a coordinator, I'd hire Saban over Miles. If I were an athletic director hiring a head coach, I'd hire Miles.

i really dont see what alabama kept in the sack that they didnt unfold in the first game. they basically did what they did all year and threw in a couple of trick plays. none of it worked. id like to see bama gameplan something up they are not comfortable with.

Saban's teams always do the same thing regardless of opponent or bowl.

Your logic is terrible...you'd hire a weaker coach (in your horrible estimation) as an AD but give a better coach a coordinator job?

Ill stop right there because the notion that Saban is an empirically better coach than Miles is...just mind-numbingly stupid.

I completely agree with you.

quote:

ALA should not be in this game, it should've been OK ST.

The rules upon which everyone agreed, prior to the season, clearly and unequivocally state: If you're #1, you play #2; if you're #2, you play #1, period. I see no support for you position, as LSU is #1 and Bama is #2. If you want to argue for a rules change for next year or subsequent years, fine by me.

I believe a simple rule such as this: A team that does not win it's own conference cannot face its conference champion in the BCS game, will fix most "fairness" issues with the current game matchup.

What evidence is there to support this assertion? (Note: the opinions of ESPN "experts" is not evidence).
