re: History on LSU’s side when they’re 14-1

Yea Williams and Murray are gonna have to help out. No way Gaines is going to be able to handle 40 minutes as the sole ball handler while getting the turnovers down and still have enough energy to effect the game defensively like we’re accustomed to seeing.

While I hate to mess with something that is working, I feel like he either needs to start Eason or get him in really quickly. I feel like Gaines job will be much easier with our best player on the court with him.

Yeah it sucked. They should have had at least one title under Dale Brown. That Louisville team was one of the least talented teams to win a title. They got all of the lucky breaks that year.

I’m torn there, I think that Gaines and Eason work very well together and feed off of each other. You could see that vs Auburn when they were split up and both had sub par games. On the other hand having Reid as your starting center forces matchup and coverage predictability that allows Wade to map out the game a little better. If you listen to Wade’s interviews he talks a lot about teams coverages and coverage adjustments. With Reid being an anchor Wade can better predict what kind of coverage teams will use first and consequently what coverages will come after.

Also scored 79 on one of the top defensive teams in the country.
Yeah, there were a couple of posts and some back up of said posts yesterday about this very game Re: how bad LSU's offense was - that from some CYO League heroes and get off my lawners ( of which I can be one at times).
That 79 was 6 more points than anyone else this year scored on Tennessee and their schedule includes Villanova, North Carolina, Alabama and Texas Tech.

This team has NO WHERE close to the talent of the 81 and 86 team.
I agree with 81, but 86 had more heart and want-to than talent, much like this team.

I would say what this team has that neither of those had is quality depth.
The 81 team was the best in my lifetime not even close - but only really went 6 deep - I know Tudor and Johnny Jones and Black would play in blowouts, but in the big games against big teams we basically just played 6 - those 3 rarely got in that year in nut cutting time.
86 was more talented than folks often give them credit for with Derrick Taylor, Redden, Blanton, John Williams, Anthony Wilson - that's a pretty good 5 there....but again little depth. Nikita got shut down for academics halfway through the year, Jose was still green...he and Ollie Brown and Woodside mostly say garbage minutes...and again not in nut cutting time usually.

dude I have no hate at all for Wade. I hope he has an incredible career at LSU. He has the opportunity to do something special. All I said was this team is nowhere near as talented as 81 or 86, in reference to those teams making final 4 compared to this team. That's not knocking Wade at all. Comical that you say I'm no LSU fan. Been diehard over 40 years....so Dude...you do you, and I'll continue to call it like I see it.
Atletes today are greater than in 1980s...

There's an old saying, "history repeats itself".

The 86 team had better shooters than this team but was definitely not as athletic. Blanton and Redden were hard nosed players and we out hustled teams that year but our winning wasn’t on pure talent.

Did we find Dickie V's burner account?

the 86' team was one of the greatest rides ever assisted by home court advantage for the first two rounds vs Purdue/Memphis. NCAA changed the rule the year after ....
This team could easily match up with the 86' group.
i'm still angry about the 87' team that had Indiana on the ropes in Dayton (the phone slamming game)

I am very excited about this season!

Hell yeah. Just looked at the schedule, our rotating x2 opponents this season are Kentucky AND Tennessee. Likely the toughest two outside of Auburn to catch this season.
Wade doesn't give a shite, he has a plan!

You'd think history is on most teams' side when they're 14-1

Very good shooters, and Wilson and Williams were the only players you could call athletic in the starting 5. But that team had shooters and scorers. They were a bit challenged defensively which is why they had to rely on gimmick defenses.
I just think folks always talk like that team was overmatched and devoid of talent and that really wasn't the case. Dale always like that story better though so that's what he pushed.
I always said the team the next year that made the elite 8 and should have beaten Indiana to go to the final four...that was a true overachieving, scraping hustling team. They were very athletic but offensively challenged, not near as talented as the 86 team...or this years Tigers for that matter.

I'll give you the 81 team but the 86 team was 9-9 in SEC play and was lucky to make the NCAA tournament and went in as an 11 seed. The current team is projected to be a 3 seed.
Outside of John Williams and Nikita Wilson (only Parade AA on team) there wasn't a lot of talent but a lot of scrappy hard nose players. I love the 86 team but to say they had more talent than the current team is ridiculous.

A lot of issues that year, but talent wasn't one of them. Chicken pocks outbreak and Nikita getting suspended for academics halfway through the year were more of an issue. That team started out 14-0 and gave Kentucky tight close games in both regular season contests and the SEC Tourney before finally beating them. if fact offensively no contest that team was more talented than this year's. Athletically and depth wise this year's team has the edge.
