"The odds favor the Gators and Beavers. Since the CWS adopted a two-bracket system in 1988, 42 of the 58 teams to start with two wins have advanced to play for the championship."

ESPN Article

So 16 of 58 have won twice. That's just over 1/4. More than I would have expected.

Later in the same article:

"LSU coach Paul Mainieri dug deep to find a source for his positivity. In 1989, Skip Bertman's Tigers played a regional at top-ranked Texas A&M needing to beat the Aggies, who were 58-5, twice in the same day to reach the CWS. LSU did it."

Is this the only time we've won twice over the same team to advance?

The Tigers beat South Alabama twice in the same day to win the regional finals at the Box in 1997. In 1999, they beat East Carolina twice over 2 days to win the sub regional at the Box. In 2003, they beat Bayor twice in the Super Regional at the Box after losing the opener. Same with Cal Irvine in 2008.

We've been bounced before having to win just 1 of 2. Both teams in the championship came out of the losers bracket just last year. It has and can be done

I said it in another thread, winning the CWS having to go thru OSU and likely Fla would be the biggest accomplishment in LSU baseball history and one of top moments in LSU sports history!

Hate to break it to y'all but the no one has beat the Beavers twice this year. It ain't gonna happen. Y'all don't have the patience or the plate discipline or the pitching. Y'all are a talented team for sure, but the Beavs are just too good this year. That said I am hoping for a much more competitive game tonight. Beavs win 7-5

I guess that we'll see but that said, you are right about the Tigers needing to have better discipline at the plate. The top of the lineup has struggled badly and they need to break out for the Tigers to have a chance. OSU won't beat themselves, the Tigers will have to earn it.

Try being a gracious winner and show some humility. It leads to a healthier and happier life. The Beavers are exceptionally strong this year, but let's see what happens on the diamond this afternoon.

I was about to mention USC because they pulled off once of the most dramatic CWS comebacks in recent memory. Sadly, it came at the expense of the Tigers when they were going for a CWS 3--peat in 1998. The Tigers beat USC 12-10 in the opening round and were sitting at 2-0 after beating Miss. State. USC fought all the way back and beat the Tigers twice before going on to win the CWS that year.

Just last year, Coastal Carolina won the CWS after losing their second round game to TCU and the opener of the championship series against Arizona.

Of course nothing is certain until the last out. That's why we play the games.

We had enough pitching until one of our top 3 starters (pitching the second best the last month) went down with the arm injury. Without him, winning two looks like a very, very, very tough task.

3--peat in 1998

If I remember correct a fricking front came through and shifted the wind and it was blowing in hard. Bats went cold. Don't think we scored more than 5 runs in the next two games after probably averaging more than 10. That was sickening.

I do think y'all will hit better today. Either starter for OSU are fastball guys. You have some huge bats in your line up if you sit back and wait for some pitches you could have a big day at the plate
