"I think when you compare stuff as a Friday night guy with stuff and the chance to dominate the opponent, I think Zack Hess has a better of chance of being that guy," Mainieri said on Tuesday. "I just thought let's put Zack on Friday night and a show of faith on the mound. Do you want to be a starting pitcher and a first round draft choice? Go out there against Texas on Friday night and prove it."

Caleb Gilbert will make the move to Saturday, where Mainieri thought he'd be most of the year. It was more about giving the veteran the start on Opening Day last week.

"I never really thought Caleb would be the Friday night guy all year. I always thought he'd be the Saturday or Sunday guy so I think it's time to give Zack a shot at it."

I like it. Maybe being under the lights in a big Friday night game is the spark he needs

If Hess doesn’t find the strike zone again...they’ll be another swap real soon

I bet the other SEC teams were concerned, & it didn't work out too well for them.

Encouraging words you want to hear from your coach.

Mainieri is basically talking out his arse, hoping something will click.

I like this move. Gilbert isn’t a friday guy and we have to see if Hess has it in him to be one

I think Gilbert will end up with a spot in the rotation. I don't think Hess will.

It's hard to argue that that isn't what it sounds like.

People say that about every move he makes during the season after a loss

He should have just made the switch and said he thinks it's the best route to take. He didn't have to shite on a kid. But, that's Mainieri for you. Hopefully, Gilbert takes it as a challenge, which I'm sure is what Mainieri wants, and starts to whip some arse.
