"He's [JD] not a person who will make those around him better."

Brought this forward from an earlier post. It's worth posting again.

Such a contrast between JD and both our First National Championship QB (Matt Mauck; 2003) and our Last National Championship QB (Joe Burrow; 2019). Those 2 guys (Mauck and Burrow) had 1 thing in common: winning... no matter what. They made their players play better. They both stepped up, met the challenge, and put their personal aspirations aside.

Mauck was a mediocre QB with pure grit; strung together with sheet metal and bailing wire.
Burrow was a great QB - a precisionist - and shared his talents freely with teammates.

Daniels has yet to cast aside the "All about me" mentality.

ETA: "He laughs a lot jogging to the sideline which I find concerning". Yep - me too. Is he simply detached from the game?

Daniels said last year after the FSU game that he felt like he had to do everything and I get the same feeling again.

Give it a few games and he will settle in and trust his team

Daniels is a one-man show. He's built for HS and middle-tier college, but he isn't good at getting the team involved at this level. His instincts prevent him from getting other guys involved.

He'd rather scramble for 30 yards than make a good downfield throw for 30 yards.

He'd rather HE run for 30 yards than the RB run for 30 yards.

This is why I hate "running QBs". They limit the chances of other guys getting involved.

Yeah, it's fun to watch at times, but at the end of the day football is a team port.

Super bowl winners are cement footed pocket passers for a reason.

They're thinking "get the ball out", Daniels is thinking "50% run or throw".

Running QBs are an ANCHOR.

With the way the interior of our OL looked? This is a big deal.

I don't blame it all on Daniels short game, but once we got down 14 and was playing with zero intensity at least Nuss MAY have changed that. But we will never know. The team was soft. No chest as Miles would say while chewing grass.

Shouldn't this have been figured out by now?? That's coddling a weak mentality. He's late to the party.

Kind of have to be when your receivers aren't catching the ball and running the wrong routes

JD also made really bad reads in the RPO calls leaving RBs with 3-4 yard losses

Can make plays with his legs , and complete high percentage passes . Now his 5th year as a starter he still is unable to do anything beyond one read quick throws . Same player he’s always been .

Or the QB can't make a good throw to hit them in stride, or the receivers know he's likely not going to make an accurate throw so they try to anticipate it.

There's a reason these excuses were equally prevalent under the Miles era.

A stuffy, stifling, ineffective offense seems to bring out the worst in everyone. The QB is the focal point of that flow and Daniels is preventing this offense from flowing.

If he can’t make the correct read on a zone option how is he making the correct reads presnap and downfield when passing?

He’s not a good QB. I’m sorry

Wait. He said this last year after game 1, then had a whole season to “settle in and figure it out” but you’re asking for more games this season for him to “figure it out” ?

Wow lol

He does that to himself. That's the problem. He naturally wants to do everything and takes the rest of the team out of the game. He isn't good enough to get other guys involved, he just thinks they should accommodate him. That's bullshite.

He's been a starter for 4+ years and he's still the same dude

End of the first half, he had Nabers in one on one a few times. The safety SPIED DANIELS and didn't help in pass coverage because they knew JD couldn't made that throw.

wrong. his numbers debunk this claim.

or just watch him play

mauck had to learn how to pass downfield because he was a run first guy also. he did it. JD cannot do it.

Of all the disappointing things I saw last night, this is what stood out the most. Where are the dawgs on this team? I don't see any leaders on this team getting in their teammates faces and telling them to play harder. The effort just wasn't there.
