Obviously not the same scenario.
Bama is LSU’s primary obstacle year in and year out in competing for SEC and National Championships. The direct competition is not only on the field, but the recruiting trail. They are our rival. (Note that the CFP changes this a little, but not much).
Otoh, UNC was a onetime opponent in a tournament, who beat us in a winner take all extra inning game. There is not really a tangible effect of them winning or losing as they’re not in our conference and we really don’t go head to head with them for a lot of recruits. You could make the case that in a non-tangible sense it’s better for LSU to have lost to the eventual national champion than another also ran.

Dumb take- I would rather the loss be to a team that ultimately wins the Natty vs loses out quickly.
