There's no doubt that in your hypothetical scenario, LSU would have a legitimate argument to make it into the CFP, because that resume' would have some very improbable wins. But the one improbable and inexcusable loss would have us playing in a NY6 bowl.

I can't see a playoff appearance for LSU this year at all unless the top two were two loss teams and everyone else in the nation had three or more losses. I can't see Alabama, Georgia, TCU or Clemson finishing with more than one loss. But it's been a weird season so who knows.

Fivethirtyeight.com right now has us on their board at 1% chance of making the playoffs. Bama is at 72%.

Fun to imagine. However, beating AU and UF by the slimmest of margins do not inspire me with hope that we will beat Bama or could beat UGA. Heck, I hope we can keep up the aTm streak. This will be a tough year. They hung with Bama better than I expected.

Sorry.

I was actually thinking about this earlier, just not as seriously as you.

IF....... LSU ran the table, presumably both Alabama and Georgia would both be one loss teams and likely both in the top 5, LSU would be somewhere between 3-7.

The committee would look at losses and with LSU getting blown out by Miss St and a home loss to Troy, Alabama would get in, Georgia would be next in line.

LSU would need both Alabama and Georgia to have two loss to get in, but in that scenario LSU doesn't have 2 top 5 wins either.

In summary, no.

TLDR.
But if LSU wins out and Bama and Georgia are two top 4 wins, LSU has a very strong argument but very small chance to get into the playoffs.

In your scenario, a 1 loss Bama would still get in over LSU

Just look at OSU and Penn State last year. Precedent has been set.

It's not even who they lost to as much as it is that they've lost 2 games. Since 1998 when the BCS started, out of a possible 44 participants between the BCS and the CFP, all of one--ONE--2-loss team has participated. 1 out of 44. And that LSU team's 2 losses were to 2 pretty good teams and both in triple OT. And that came in a crazy year where all of the contenders save Ohio State had 2 or more losses. 2-loss teams will always be left out when a comparable 1-loss team is the other option. Look no further than last year when 2-loss Big 10 Champ Penn State was left out in favor of an Ohio State team that didn't win their division.

You can overcome a loss to Troy if it's your only loss. If it is coupled with an arse-kicking to Mississippi State, it is insurmountable. Relative to the playoff.

you are fricking high if you think this team gets within 30 against Bama.

But let's say that their entire team gets food poisoning from the chocolate fountain at Golden Corral and we squeak out an OT win against their practice squad.

Assuming we don't lose any other SEC games, UGA would absolutely murder us. Their offense would make Aranda's arse quit

I really don't think it would happen, But IF LSU were to RUN the table and then beat A #1 or #2 UGA in the SECCG they would STILL be left out.... ANY 1 loss conference champ will be put n... That's just the way it goes.....................

BUT Bama will beat LSU by at least 20 so its A moot point......

Just sayin...........

HELL LSU will be hard pressed to beat OLE MISS today... How about looking at it ONE game at A Time....................

A 7-1 SEC record will be enough proof that we righted the ship and a strong showing against UGA in the SEC championship (which would give us 3 top 10 wins and maybe 2. Top 5's) will get us in the playoff. The offense is going to continually improve as the line gets healthy and Guice gets back to full strength. Buckle up dudes

The committee would take a 1 loss Bama or UGA team before they would take a 2 loss SEC champ LSU.
