This doesn't bother me, because if Jim's pissed because of poor play then probably so am I, and since I can't show my displeasure except to myself, I'm happy he can do it for me.

I think what most people take issue with baseball-wise is that he often seems like he doesn't want to be there...like when a baseball game goes 13 innings or something. It is obvious that he wants to go home.

Would Brando decline? Probably, but he is in his 60's

Brando is 58 -- born February 27, 1956. He is young enough that he could devote a good decade to serving as the voice. While he can be an opinionated arse, he is a good representative for the State of Louisiana in the national media, always has been.

He still does a LOT of football and basketball nationally, and does a ton of travel. He's made lots of cash. Yes, I think he would turn it down, but I get that he might view it as the job to wind down his career and leave his mark in his home state. Say what you will, he would be outstanding.

Let me see if I follow your logic here:
You want to get rid of someone who you believe is at the end of his career and replace with someone that you think is "winding down" and approaching the end of his?

Is that about how it works in your mind?

I am 100% ready for JH to move on and it is mostly becuase I feel he is waaay too negative on football and that in all sports he does not do his homework as far as knowing the players etc.

I think he is very knowledgable about the sports as a whole and do not care about the missed call (Jack Hunt) here and there. He just is IMHO way over negative. Like his voice and like how he and color guys work in tandem. However the two arugments for those who support him that make NO sense to me are
1) He has been here so long, he should get to leave when he wants to...really? He is bigger than LSU, come on he is the announcer, he should go when LSU thinks he needs to go..period.

2 Ever listen to the ole mmiss/fill in the blank guy? No, we are LSU how any other announcer does is their issue, we should have an announcer that is good for 1)Our fans who are the main users of the product, 2) National fans of the sport as his rep is important to LSU and 3) Be up to LSU standards. UGA has long had and wants a guy who is a total homer (Munson and the new guy, always saying "our little tailback just out ran their All American" to make UGA fans feel they are always the David vs Goliath.
We need a first class person who is LSU- that is pro lsu, but balanced and somone who does his homework and knows the players etc. Jim is no longer that..time for him to go...

Brando is not well thought of nationally. And he was let go from CBS for a reason. He's a pompass arse who is known for using the "do you know who I am card?" every chance he gets. I respect JH for his yrs service to LSU & there is no question as to where his loyalty lies. As well, covering all 3 major sports and supervising the entire LSU media dept, he spends hrs & hrs at his trade. He just does lose me at times: the other day the UT catcher made a throw to 2nd base & JH's comments were "he threw behind his back". I still don't know what he was trying to say.Happens too often at times. JF faded badly in his later yrs & I hope JH does not suffer that same fate.Let him go out in style somehow.

I was watching on Geauxzone and was glad I could see what really happened. The pitcher threw behind Bregman on the steal attempt.

Also, he said "foul ball and that will go over the roof" while the camera showed Ibarra sliding at the fence on a ball that hit in foul territory.

I think its time to make the Jim Hawthore Rant its own board so all the people who whine about him have a place to congregate together so that the rest of us can go about the business of discussing topics that actually have value.

Because when he is gone, y'all are all going to hate the replacement. That is a given.

Please no. I don't think he has a good enough voice to be the permanent play by play guy for LSU. He does not make the game sound exciting at all (IMO), regardless of how factually accurate he is.

Like I said earlier. I record innings 4-6, and on nights when I can't fall asleep I listen to the recording. I've never gotten to the 5th inning yet.

I don't know why y'all have to keep pointing out that Charlie isn't exciting enough.
Baseball is my favorite sport.
There's lots of dull moments to it.
The game is what it is.
I just want someone to accurately tell me what's happening while it's happening.

Charlie does that, I'll take him.

You guys over there in the Baton Rouge area may not like Hawthorne, but here (where we get Hispanic interference most of the time), I can hone in on his voice and at least get some play-by-play. If you are going to replace Hawthorne, ensure it is with someone with an outstanding voice that can be recognized in the static. John Ferguson and Hawthorne have that voice quality.

Agree hawthorne isnt best we can do. I like charlie ALOT but my problem w/ him is that we he reacts to a MAJOR play his excitement sounds feigned and awkward.

I know this would never happen but i would love to see the role shared by charlie and gordy. The years they did the post game show together were epic. They complement each other well. Knowledgeable and entertaining

If you really want to upgrade when Hawthorne goes, I think Patrick Wright would be a solid choice . That being said, I enjoy listening to Jim and especially enjoy not having to listen to the doofuses on the TV broadcasts (all networks included).

On the hit-n-run attempt in the 9th, Jim said the ball was low and outside in the dirt, but Hale had to swing. When I watched the replay, it was a belt-high fastball that Hale swung through. He is awful.
