Why don’t they have the power 5 conference winners as automatic locks for the playoff and then 3 at large teams? I think that would make sense

Teams that don’t play in the CCG should definitely be excluded as long as you hold the CCG result AGAINST the loser.
Couldn't agree more now that all P5 conferences have a championship game, and it blows my mind that the committee doesn't limit entre to conference champs. It would have the wonderful side effect of keeping regular season games important, as well as the conf. championship games. The only reason it isn't done is Notre Dame.

And don't try to sell me on conference game spoilers. Winning that game matters! And if you're REALLY concerned about that, you could compromise and require a team finish the season in the top 10 (or 15) to avoid a serious underdog sneaking in. But as long as there are worthy conference champs, a team that couldn't even win its division doesn't deserve consideration, and now that we have a multi-game playoff, the ultimate winner will finish with two GIGANTIC wins that will drown out any claim that 'other' team has to calling themselves #1.

If Oregon wins the Pac 12 and bama throttles Auburn why would Oregon be better? They haven't played a tough schedule either

If two 1-loss teams are in contention for a playoff spot, their SOS are about the same and one of them is a conference champion, then I think the tie-breaker should go to the conference champion. They won 1 more game than the other team and won their conference.

According to ESPN, Oregon has a better SOS and SOR.

Bama's next two opponents are MSU and Western Carolina, so I don't think it'll get much better.

Oregon plays Arizona and Arizona State, so not much better but still better.

ETA:

Obviously Bama ends with Auburn and Oregon ends with Oregon State, but then Oregon would get top 10 Utah.

I just think bama will be involved for the 4th spot. I don't want them in I would love to play Oregon. I'm just not trusting the powers that be to eliminate them without it being close...and Oregons AD heads the committee

I don't agree simply bc there can be years we go 11-1 and miss out on SEC championship game. Doesn't mean we aren't one of the top 4

If we go 11-1 and miss out on the SEC CG that means we already played against and lost to the winner of the SEC. Why waste time with a rematch?

Let’s face the facts if we had Bamas schedule this year and lost at home to them the way we beat that arse on Saturday (score didn’t do justice) we would be sitting no higher than 8-10 with zero chance of fighting back into the Top 4.

It's like people don't remember LSU being the only 2-loss team to ever play for the championship.

Exactly. Fortunately for us... we are in the better position in 2019. But there may be a time when that is flipped.

But the problem is when you play two top teams the likelihood of winning twice is just difficult. Not impossible and I think we’d beat Alabama worse a second time but generally that’s the case.

If you require participation in the CCG you essentially state “win when it matters.” And that means every regular season conference game is huge. That keeps the CCG relevant.

Without the CCG requirement it makes that extra game a more difficult path for successful teams.

We should forfeit to UGA and request the CFB playoff committee seed us and UGA in the semis.

frick losing a game. People can still get hurt in a loss.

Remind me - did we win the fricking SEC that year?

And did we face an SEC team in the big game?

Didn't think so...

100% agree.

This will come down to media pressure and they'll cave.

Did Auburn win the fricking SEC, undefeated, 3 years prior? Did they fricking go to the fricking championship game? Were there other 2-loss conference fricking champions in 2007? Were there other 1-loss fricking teams besides tOSfrickingU in 2007?

Literally has nothing to do with the point.

LSU got picked, when other teams could have. It's not like the Powers That Be are always out to frick LSU in the ear.

Yeah, it's a system that picks Bama, Clemson and 2 other teams "just because" - fricking eye test can blow me.

That will always be subjective. If you want to play for a championship, you should be able to win your conference.
