Wait, you are saying that LSU baseball isn't as popular because it doesn't get as many fans as the PMAC? You do know that Alex Box doesn't hold as many, right? Max Capacity of PMAC is about 13K and MAX capacity of the Box is only about 10,500. Granted, standing room only pushes up the Box some... but not to the capacity of the Pmac.

Serious question here.

Would LSU Gymnastics sell out every night if they had meets Tuesday or Wednesday (sometimes both) and again Friday-Sunday for 35+ meets? The answer is no. It sells out because you only have a small chance to see them. Imagine us playing a small college during the week and getting 197.50 vs 192.00. That would get tired real quick.

You're saying gym is "way more" popular than men's basketball? Am I reading this right?

Again, when's the last time you've been to a men's basketball game in the PMAC? They've now won seven straight games at home and still can't convince any more than 9,000 to show up on a Saturday afternoon.

Is it shocking to you that a #2 ranked Gymnastics team is a more popular ticket than a 10th place SEC basketball team?

The question is what sports are most popular. The pool of people who are gym fans is absolutely smaller than the big 3 mens sports. It’s just a fact.

We know its a general fact that more people follow basketball baseball and football over gymnastics, no one denies that, this thread pertains to LSU specifically

I think thats what the OP means

I can guarantee you the current gym pool would be comparable to the basketball pool. Gym almost winning a national title and basketball going 10-21 will do that.

And if the gym pool really is that much smaller, at least they can actually show up. Basketball's supposed bigger pool gave up on them after they lost to Alabama, and never showed up again despite the home winning streak.

Dude, the gymnastics team had 6 home meets. The basketball team had 17.

That is almost 3x as many opportunities to watch mens basektball........

As others have said, you're not taking into account the regional and national appeal of college basketball. Ticket sales and attendance are just 1 factor of several when considering overall popularity. I guarantee if you were to pull up viewership/streaming numbers for men's hoops they'd dwarf gymnastics. Plus raw attendance numbers simply can't tell the whole story. There are far fewer gymnastics meets - only like 5 or 6 home meets a year, right? So it'd be understandable that the pool of fans interested in gymnastics, while not as large as that of basketball fans, would be more motivated to make it out to meets.

Attendance at live events is a tiny part of overall popularity in this day and age.

Or 9 SEC games, and the seven games after Bama could never break 10k.

I attended my first gymnastics meet this year the weekend of the Missouri basketball game. My daughter, an LSU freshman, enjoys them and wanted me to go with her while I was in town It was very nice but it really wasn't my thing. I'm proud of how well this team is doing and I want every LSU sport to do well. I'm glad the PMAC is packed and I love that LSU fans are coming out to support this team. But many of those 12,000+ in attendance are under the age of 13 so while the crowds are great and rowdy, I wouldn't say gymnastics has surpassed baseball or basketball as the #2 sport. But I pulling for this team to kicked some Sooner tail and bring home the NC.

Not here to argue with anyone on this topic, and I certainly do not consider myself a cult member in any way,
But:
My wife and I drive 5 1/2 hours one way to all football games and to all Gymnastic Meets. We have missed neither, a home Game or Meet for several years. We also have other season tickets and do attend some, but not to the level to of these two programs. Football and Gymnastics; we never miss! Maybe we are strange but just FYI I played College Football, and we have a son that lettered 4 years in D1 baseball(played for Smoke), so yes we love the other sports as well. Hopefully that makes us somewhat rounded fans.
We got hooked on Gymnastics watching Friday Night on SECN the first year, loved it and chose it as one of our favorites to follow regularly. Not only Home Meeets, but have been to SECs once, and was at The DFW Meet this year. I can promise you at The SEC Meet and this years DFW Meet,,, LSU had MANY fans there, not just parents! I have grandkids in DFW area and there are many LSU fans of all sports there, including Gymnastics.
Facts are:
Gymnastics
1)most successful Program the last two years: 2 SEC titles and two Natty Runner-ups, Several individual Nat'l Champs.
2)for certain; 2nd highest per event actual attendance on campus.
That doesn't mean that its ahead of any other sport, but it is a GREAT ENVIRONMENT that Coach DD and her fantastic group of national and even world class athletes provide LSU with.
Come try it, you just might enjoy.

More LSU fans will tune in for the NIT game tonight than even CARE about gymnastics.
