Your point? In Les' first 3 years, LSU had the following players in the NFL from Saban recruits under Miles:

JR, Flynn, Landry, Doucet, Dorsey, Jackson, Bowe, Buster Davis, Jessie Daniels, Kyle Williams, Chevis Jackson, Niswanger, Nate Livings, Hester, Ronnie Prude, Oliver, Brazell, Skylar Green, Andrew Whitworth, Wroten, Chase Pittman, Craig Steltz, Keith Zinger

So that's 24 players in his first 3 years from Saban that I get off the top of my head and I may be missing some.

I'd say that's a significantly bigger number than 17.

awesome....thats my point. as soon as Miles became the head coach they became his players. unless Saban was still showing up at practice and meetings and i wasn't aware of it.

but by all means....keep coming up with different ways to shite all over Miles and his accomplishments.

my new favorite is "what if Pitt doesn't beat WVU?". maybe you can run over to that thread and start throwing shite against the wall

Choctaw, the point is is the program better now than when CLM arrived. Maybe it is not a good question. More than likely the athletic Dept and TAF have a lot more money, but does any one see a pattern under Miles. The loss against Tenn his first year, the losses to Arky and UK in 07, the poor clock management losses and above all 1/9.

I have a feeling that this is a watershed year for the program. If LSU gets blanked in SEC play look for some big changes one way or another. He had better find a good QB and some defensive linemen.

Positigers keep making the claim that Les is so great because of his win/loss record compared to other coaches.

Keep on keepin on, Laman. By all means, ignore the win/loss record of our coach when evaluating the job he has done.

Positigers...think we couldn't get anyone better.

That's because we couldn't! We got Les Miles, remember? If we could have hired someone better at the time we would have. And no other coach has been better during the time that Miles has been at LSU.

Oooh I love this game!!!

Do you remember the Oregon State game by any chance? Saban should still be sending Alexis Serna Christmas cards for sparing the defending NC team a home loss in the opening game. BUT BUT BUT Miles wins on talent alone and gets LUCKY!!!

How bout another Gator squad choking away a game in Zook's firing year? Add Marcus Randall to Saban's holiday card list for bailing him out off the bench after starting Russell before he was ready.

Troy State??? Where have I heard this before? Randall saves the day again with a last minute TD to avoid the upset. BUT BUT BUT LSU should never struggle with TROY!!!!

3 point home win over 4-7 Ole Miss squad in Cutcliffe's firing year. BUT BUT BUT struggling against OM is unacceptable!!! We have SO MUCH MORE TALENT!!!

Oh yeah, and let's not forget the THIRTY point beatdown against Georgia in FIFTH and last season in BR. But but but LSU should NEVER get embarassed in a game!!! SO MUCH TALENT WASTED!!!! He LOST THE TEAM!!!

So yeah maybe LSU could have gone 10-2 or 11-1, but we just as easily could have gone 5-7.

Damn, Voodoo! That was a really good post; I mean it.

So you mean to tell me that the two coaches took over the program in anywhere near the same level or circumstances? How can anyone take you seriously when you want to claim LSU in 2000 was in any way in near equal footing with LSU in 2005.

LSU in 2005 had more talent by a mile than in 2000, particularly in terms of depth. It also had become a national player with the NC in 2003 and it maintained Jimbo at OC. So Les developed all those offensive players and QBs instead of the guy Saban handpicked 5 years earlier and had in place, right?

Les is not near as bad as his detractors want to believe, nor is he as good/great as you and your compadres believe. He's somewhere in the middle, but acting like he and Saban started on the same level field when their tenures at LSU began is just ludicrous.

So let me get this straight...LSU started the 2005 season ranked #5 SIMPLY because Les Miles was the coach...without a single game under his belt at LSU?? Yeah, the program was in TERRIBLE shape in 2004.

We started 2004 ranked No. 3 and finished No. 16. #Decline

When Saban left, the expectations for continued success

I quit reading here, so I don't know what was said I can only guess...

But, this is the comical part.....continued success. It's like you guys don't know, or don't remember that the second best season under Saban LSU had three losses.....THREE. Not like LSU was churning out 1 and 2 loss seasons under him....AND, that was in a period where the overall SEC wasn't nearly as strong as it is now....it just amazes me the ignorance level on here....but to be fair, most of you kids were about 9 or 10 years old during this time....so I can understand if you really just don't know.

Ok but it's laughable to proclaim Miles inherited a top 5 program when he didn't. 1 season of 2 or less loses since 1987 doesn't make you a top 5 or top 10 program

But a national championship and 2 SEC championships in 4 years does
No, it doesn't. The 2001 SEC championship was a major upset, as LSU was 8-3 and knocked the SEC powerhouse (#2 Tennessee) out of the BCS game. That weakened the perception of the SEC more than it bolstered us. Interesting side-note: go recheck that Sugar Bowl. We gave up 30+ points to an Illinois team, we won a shootout after jumping out early on emotion. Our defense wasn't extremely Sabanesque in that game (or season), it was an offensive team. A different identity than later Saban teams. As for 2003, a lot of people nationally still go back and say USC was THE team, not us. The SEC had yet to get on their roll. And 2004, we had one of the shakiest followup seasons of any champ up to that point. As other posters pointed out, we were lucky to escape the opener with a win and got drilled by Georgia big-time.
The objective perception of LSU nationally was that it was back to being a ranked, bowl worthy team, not that it was on the way to becoming a perennial national power.

Right, no patter except that those losses often cost a chance for SEC championship and/or BCS bowl bid. The clock gaffes are truly amazing. The game plans do not work sometimes in really important games, but he has nothing else to offer. Seems strange to me. Oh, you can add the loss to PSU a few years ago.

Is he getting the program to where it wants to go? It seems to be going from neutral to reverse.
