re: Hanny - Mulkey knew exactly what she was doing, by not calling time outs

If this were any other coach other than Mulkey, I would've called horsecrap, but this is spot on. She's always playing 4D chess.

quote:
Hanny explained that if this was a game later in the season or tournament game, Coach Mulkey would have called a time out. She wanted to see how her players would react, how will they fight through this. Noted that a coach did a similar thing to Michael Jordan and other elite players in a scrimmage game preparing for the Olympics. The Coach actually stacked the deck against Jordan’s team. Explained how Jordan was furious, and wanted to kill the next opponent which they did. Also said that this Colorado team was senior laden, a sweet 16 team last year adding that this game will be long forgotten towards the end of the season.
Implied that Mulkey knows exactly what she’s doing to get her players ready and playing the way she wants them to be at seasons end.

She is going to have to bust a lot of egos to get them playing well.
Maybe that plays into it a little, but honestly, they just looked like a team that is still getting used to playing together and establishing an identity. And there is nothing wrong with that. It may be January before we see them roll--it may be sooner. But it will happen. Mulkey/Starkey/etc. are the best in the business and there is plenty of talent.
While disturbing to watch last night, it didn't bother me at all. In a couple months we can all look back and see how much the team has improved.
And I am pretty sure Mulkey had some strong words for them in the locker room after the game. I turned on the radio looking for her comments and the team was still in the locker room when they went off the air.

It’s exactly what I believe pat riley did in the beginning of the Olympic 1992 dream team when he benched Michael, and they lost. Now you have a coachable team hopefully because their talent isn’t gonna win out. They’re gonna need to play as a team.
Oh edit to read the rest of your post that’s funny I guess we both thought about the same thing.

They’re being fed Humble pie right now which is a great way to get into shape.

The entire team didn’t make it to campus until late august. Last year, the entire team met in late June and practiced and scrimmaged all summer.

So did football losing to FSU in the first game of the season light a fire under them? There’s such a small margin for error in that sport, that I’d think it would have had the opposite effect. Maybe when they expand the playoffs it will improve because they would still feel like they would be still “in the hunt”.

Nah. They played fat and happy. It’s all between the ears.

Call it what you want "Crystal", but his woman is a championship coach who knows what she's doing.

If anyone doubts that Mulkey will turn this into a teaching moment and have the team breathing fire by March, then idk what to tell ya
I don’t disagree, but Mulkey didn’t grow up in the NIL/Influencer/I ain’t come to play school movement.

It's November 7th, and we're discussing women's basketball...

I thought so, too. I'm glad it's not just me who thinks that the whole team is not physically fit at the moment.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they're fixing to be.

Mulkey coaches with such extreme efficiency that instead of breaking down her own team to build them up, she forces other teams to expend their energy to do it for her.

No need to imply. It’s a fact.

You could have made this your post and ended it there.

It was a reality check, they heads were way to big. Those girls looked bad fundamentally

Video shoots and magazine covers is my explanation

Word is before the game Mulkey had the managers buy a pie for each player. Then after half time she had the managers go in the locker room and place one on each seat for post game humble pie talk
