You people keep giving these rushing stats for last year like there was no problems.

The only stats that matter last year were against Alabama there was less than 60 total yards rushing for the game and Arkansas was the same.

Average was considerably less than 2ypc.

That's all you need to see. In the big games, the offense was NONEXISTENT.

You can't post a rushing stat showing shite that doesn't fall apart when you actually look at it.

The one game that the offense actually clicked last year against top flight competition is the Florida game.

Unless there is a substantial change of playcalling, get ready for more of the same.

Time will tell but quit posting rushing stats like all was good last year. It wasn't when it counted.

Honestly. This is one of Miles' substantial problems.

I mean, I'm sorry. Choosing to run right at Bama last year was a friggin form of retardation. Really, it usually is.

The only teams that have successfully run without passing against Bama have NOT done it by running right the frick at them.

I have no idea what one could have seen on film to make him think, "yep, right at em.......that's gonna work".

And before you say, "but LF" I'll simply say this.

It's helpful to pay attention to the OTHER team's film too.

All over America, coaches are confronted with teams that have more talent than them. And, often, it's too much to overcome.

But, generally speaking, they don't look at film and say "that DL is going to whip the frick out of our OL........so, we're gonna run off guard".

I'm pretty sure this is what we've always thought. No way any coach goes in there thinking what Miles is doing makes sense. I suppose the question was whether or not anyone said anything or just went along with it as long as they took in their fat paychecks.

Oh and lets make sure all the pro-Miles folks on here see this so they don't give him ANOTHER pass, and they finally understand changing the offensive coordinator won't change Les Miles.

We were too young at guard goin against that dline last year. Boys goin against men. No way we pass with success they were blowing us up at poa. That was one of the best defensive fronts I've seen and we had freshman goin up against em at the guard spot. Harris wasn't 100% either. I like us at home to break the losin skid this year. We return 18 and have a seasoned qb.

Any writer who has ever written anything short of endless praise of LSU and Les Miles is a hack and is making it up. LSU is perfect in every phase and anyone who disagrees needs to cheer for another team, and every Louisiana writer who's not a LSU homer is just being miserable and spreading lies.

Agree 100%

It's as messed up as throwing out a bunch of Chavis defensive statistics the prior year when the fact of the matter is the defense was shite against the good teams in the SEC and the stats were only there because they were padded by games like Sam Houston State.

Yep. The asserted fact is so believable, I would never hesitate to believe it if practically ANY other sportswriter had written it, but with Guilbeau I always assume everything is completely false and intentionally fabricated for the purpose of misinforming the public. With that approach, I end up being right more often than not, so I'm not changing it for this article.

Guilbeau says LSU assistants wanted to pass more at Bama

This may or not be true, but I see nothing in the article that suggests that Guilbeau has any evidence, as opposed to just guessing. All he says is:
quote:

LSU’s offensive assistant coaches tried to convince LSU head coach Les Miles not to run right at Alabama’s formidable Front Seven last season.

So the lede of the piece is an unsourced statement about an unnamed coach ("coaches," actually) without any quote or even paraphrase from any of the supposedly numerous coaches he refers to. Basically Chicken is stricter than Gannett

I loathe Glenn as much as the next guy, but I seriously doubt our generously paid staff looked at the play calling and felt "yeah, that'll win the game for us!"

I doubt it either.

But I doubt that any of them told that to Glenn Guilbeau even more.

Tony Ball is really the only legitimate candidate from the coaching staff to have actually spoken to to Glen and I doubt he would be vindictive enough to really bad-mouth his ex-employer. He is too professional for that. Glen, however, is not very professional and indeed a hack. He probably heard this rumor 3rd or 4th hand and went with it. But his hackishness doesn't offend me as much as his prose. He is just a fricking horrible writer.

That said, I'm sure Miles did go conservative after that pick to start the 2nd half. And he can certainly be stubborn to a fault. But there was no game plan that was going to go into Tuscaloosa and beat the eventual national champions that night. Miles probably figured his best--or only--chance was to hope LF broke a couple of tackles and housed a couple. Even if he was getting stuffed behind the line all night.

Harris ran some option and draw for about 30yds iirc in 1st half before groin injury.
As for passing, 6/19 isn't good, but it's still throwing.
12 of the 22 actual attempts (counting sacks and PI) were 2nd half, so staff didn't abandon the pass as so many claim.
You suggest more, like 12/38 would've won the game?
In fact throwing the Int at start of 2nd half was the beginning of the end and energized Bama.

Bama's defense executes plays like soldiers on a field. I hope Etling steps up at times to push Harris into being smarter out there.

This defensive matchup will be similar to 2011. Aranda is going to mind f*ck Saban's offense for a low scoring game.
