Well,Guilbeau nails it again. I remember this time last year all LSU fans felt Lee would be the front-runner for the Heisman for 2009. Guilbeau's work is incredible. Can't believe he isn't nationally syndicated.

I wouldn't quite go that far...they certainly exposed some holes in the D but never really threatened to win the game, we had a pretty comfortable lead throughout the game.

The biggest factor in the Ga Tech game was that they weren't a passing team and we shut them down.

"It is the biggest question mark on the team."

Didn't he say that the WR spot was the biggest question mark a couple of weeks ago?

Make up my mind, Guilbeau

GT beat one of the best teams in the SEC last year in Georgia, who was 9-2 going into that game with their only losses coming to 2 undefeated top 3 nationally ranked teams in Alabama and Florida. They also beat up on a Mississippi State team who gave us all we could handle at home.

Were they spectacular...no.

Were they a solid top 15 team who we shut down...yes

Did JJ manage that game perfectly, in a similar fashion to Flynn's management against Miami in that same situation...absolutely

Give credit where credit is due. That doesn't mean he is the savior or that he is guaranteed to be an all-american, but it certainly points to a bright future and anyone saying otherwise is just trying to flame.

Excellent Post!

Again, For emphasis.

This team can win 9-10 games with a consistent QB who "Manages" the game conservatively. Our QB will be called on to win a couple games for us, at most next year. Defense and RB's should be able to win half the games on their own.

He works for Gannett, which means any time a Gannett paper, including USA Today needs an article about LSU they use Guilbeau; ESPN also uses Guilbeau; i'd say he's gettin some national pub...

I'm not sad that he is no Josh Booty.

Booty had one of if not the best 3 game stint ever for an LSU team and if we would have had a better D we probably would have went to the SEC championship game in Saban's first year......anyway to say that you don't hope Jefferson is as good as Booty was this year is asinine. If he is I will be happy.

That lasted all of one game (maybe 2) after the Auburn game where Lee pulled one out of his arse, then the INT machine started kicking in...so Guilbleaux is overstating that one a bit.

Agree that JJ will be better, but not overly remarkable than JL, just safer with the ball, which is what we need. There's no controversy there, GG is stating the obvious to logical Tiger fans.

I also agree that unless he has an incredible season, JJ's position as the #1 QB is not necessarily safe for 2010.

I was hoping he was being sarcastic fore, but let's be honest, with all the loonies running around here as of late, can we really be sure anymore?

Like Guilbeau's political preface, there are a number of half truths...or rather minimizing the known and amplifying the unknown....JJ is a young QB with all the tools and a CALMING presence...even thrown in the fire in the Ole Miss game, he was cool under the pressure that ate him alive...JJ has now experienced the speed of big time college football and was un-nerved by it...He will go through growing pains of any developing QB but he will excel IMO...i would be hard pressed thinking JJ will lose games for us

"Quarterbacks still not ready to lead LSU to a title"

Damn, that's going out on a limb!

We end the season unranked at 8-5 and with a true fr QB forced to start the last 2 games of the yr and someone just figures out we have a question mark at the QB slot which will limit our ability to win a title???

With the question marks at QB, WR, and the whole D, 8-5 is looking good till proven otherwise. imo

Completely agree with this. Our defense will be back to elite form. On offense, we will have a great running game and play makers all around JJ. He doesn't need to be JRuss he just needs to manage the game, minimize turnovers and make some plays when we need him to (which he has proven he can do).

He's makes some good points. Last year our problems were in this order, IMHO. The defense, which was supposed to give cover for our ground game to win. We knew after RP was gone that we had no one with experience. Then we lost Hatch, who at least had the time in the system and the intelligence and maturity to "manage a game". JL was expected to learn on the fly, but defer to Hatch in pressure situations. JJ was so far behind in the learning curve, that he was not able to contribute early.
Final result. Defense, or lack of, put us into more passing situations than our young QB's could handle. I contend that JJ would not have been any better than JL if forced into JL's shoes. Once he got enough reps, his talent could be utilized late in the season, causing some fans to believe that he could have done that earlier. I trust the coaches on this evaluation.
Prediction: I agree in principle with GG(not a fan) that our QB situation is much better than last year. We will have games of fully realized potential, and others where their youth will still be a problem. It's up to the Chief and his assistants to return to The D to Tiger status, which will cover any QB fine tuning. With a shut down D, the pressure will not be a QB killer. I don't want to start another JL thread war, but I will say that he received more than his share of blame. Sorry for the volume, just had to get it off my chest.

I expected to get angry at Guilbeau like I usually do, but he made good points. I found myself agreeing with him.

I predicted 9-3. That is if the ball bounces the right way and we eliminate mistakes. We have great talent, but inexperience where it counts. We'll win the bowl game and go 10-3 and be set up for 2010. It will be a Georgia type year for us.

But, what did he mean by this:

quote:

But in 2010, it could all change again. LSU could have its third new, underclassman starting quarterback in three years. That’s not healthy or stable.

The column is so half-assed and illogical that it takes a proposition I generally agree with (the QB position is a huge question mark) and made me reconsider it because I didn’t want to be agreeing with a column so friggin stupid.

His basic argument is that Jefferson won’t do well because Lee sucks. That doesn’t make the least bit of sense. He spends most of a column on the question at quarterback taking cheap shots at the backup QB. It’s a column so hateful and asinine, I’m surprised it wasn’t authored by the Rant.
