I believe that you just described the St Louis Cardinals.

I'll try to give a summary of our team (my fellow tigers can help me out and chime in on some guys):
Batting Lineup:
1) Antoine Duplantis RF: Freshman phenom. His quickness to the ball defensively is outstanding, but doesn't have a great arm. More of a contact hitter, but his first collegiate homer was a grand slam. I'm sure you'll hear on tv that his family is full of world-class pole vaulters.
2) Jake Fraley CF: Drafted 77th overall by the Rays last night. Very fast, doesn't make mistakes defensively, and is probably our most well-rounded batter.
3) Kramer Robertson SS: Very emotional and the leader of the team. Exceptional defensively, has good speed, hits the ball hard, and is the definition of clutch. I'm sure you'll hear on tv that his mother is Kim Mulkey (Baylor women's head basketball coach). You will probably see her face more than Kramer's.
4) Bryce Jordan DH: Good power, but very slow. He stands over the plate and isn't afraid to get hit. Has the national high school record for most hit by pitches and now holds the LSU record for most hit by pitches in a season.
5) Greg Deichmann 1B: Draft eligible sophomore. Decent first baseman, but tends to make errors from a lack of concentration (taking foot off of the bag). Average speed with a very powerful bat. Went through a slump about a month ago, but has come out of it on fire. Leads the team in homers with 10.
6) Beau Jordan LF: Twin brother of Bryce. Faster than Bryce, but still pretty slow. Doesn't have a great arm, but can hit the ball with power.
7) Chris Reid 3B: Freshman who has come in for our previously injured 3rd baseman and has done an exceptional job. Good arm with average speed. Will move around the lineup, but will probably never move out of it the rest of his career here.
8) Michael Papierski C: Outstanding catcher defensively. Rips the cover off of the ball in batting practice, but couldn't get it going in the game. Was replaced by Jordan Romero mid-season, but has regained his starting job back. Bat has come around now and crushed a ball over the bleachers in our last game.
9) Cole Freeman 2B: Outstanding defensively. Him and Kramer may be one of the best duos up the middle. Fastest guy on the team and as our radio broadcaster calls him: "The best 9th hole hitter in the country."
Extra: Jordan Romero C: Pinch hit in the first game of the season for the game tying RBI, then game winning hit. Had to get his bat in the lineup somehow so when Papierski struggled at the plate, Romero stepped up big time. Isn't as good defensively as Papierski, and once his bat started to struggle in the SEC Tournament, Papierski regained his starting job. Look for him as a pinch hitter late in the game.
Pitchers:
1) Alex Lange: Future first round pick. "Struggled" early in the season, but him struggling is still better than the average pitcher. Has found his rhythm now and is dominant. Fastball 92-95, but his money pitch is his curve. Will start game 1 on Saturday.
2) Jared Poche: Struggles early in games (1-2 innings), but after that he starts dealing. Fastball 89-92, won't strikeout as many batters as Lange, but gets a lot of easy outs. Came in the regional Tuesday in the 3rd and had his best outing I've ever seen only giving up 1 hit in 6 innings on only 3 days rest. Will probably go game 2 on Sunday, but if we win on Saturday I wouldn't be surprised if we give him an extra day of rest.
3) Johnny Wholestaff: Call it what you want, but we don't have a clear cut 3rd starter. John Valek started the season off extremely well, but his late struggles has him becoming a reliever. Jake Latz turned down $900K to come to LSU and was injured his freshman season and the first half of this season. Has excellent stuff, but can't pitch more than 2-3 innings yet. Caleb Gilbert is our other starter, but is one of those guys that can be exceptional or have an off day.
4) Hunter Newman: Closer who can go 3 innings. If the game is tight, he can come in in the 7th and finish it off without having to touch the bullpen. He is Mr. Reliable and I'm still trying to figure out how he is so dominant. If you look at our schedule, you'll find a lot of 1 run games that we have won. He is a big reason why we win those more than not.
Wrap-Up:
We don't have the individual studs as we usually do, but this team has each others back and plays for each other. Everything seems to be clicking at the right time and have won 17 of our last 20 games. In that span we have swept Arkansas, swept Notre Dame (2 games), swept Tennessee, beat Mississippi State, and are 3 of 5 against Florida. You can contribute the success of this season to our 3 great coaches, Alan Dunn (pitching), Andy Cannizaro (hitting), and Paul Mainieri (head coach). O and the Rally Possum.
Good Luck!

How were you able to get Robinson away from Baylor?
Posted on 6/10/16 at 10:36 am to bodoyle
It's LSU. We have the greatest fans in college baseball and one of the most successful programs.
Sorry if that was too long, but I'm bored at work and entertained me for 30 minutes.

What's the deal with the pissing match regarding stadium costs? Of course a school from a major conference will spend more than one from a mid-major. You're also comparing costs of their renovation vs us building a completely new stadium

There's no deal. I just felt like busting his balls. I mean he came here to run his mouth on an LSU board he's not just gonna chill without getting ribbed a bit. Don't be that guy.

Makes sense. Plus, I wonder if this might be a factor - it would for me if I were 18 again:
CCU Coach: "Well Jeff, I see that the Dodgers want to give you a nice signing bonus and send you up to their low A team in Poughkeepsie, NY but wouldn't you rather get in a few years at Coastal Carolina instead?"
Me: "Coastal Carolina? What/where the hell is that?"
CCU Coach: "Oh, just think of it as Myrtle Beach State University"
Me: "Daaaaamn where do I sign?"

As you can see, the elite that live in this state have raised a bunch of snotty little brats. It seems to be a growing trend everywhere. Please excuse their ignorance. Thanks for the classy post. Ya'll are bringing in a very good team. We will have our hands full. Sorry that you can't make the trip. If you win, good luck at Omaha.

frick off.
And . . .
Welcome to the Rant. Enjoy you stay here on here and stick around through the weekend. Or longer.
Sorry you're not making the trip down but for any of your fellow fans reading this who are:
Check out Mike the Tiger in his habitat. Ole boy's got some bad health news and he's a gorgeous animal with a great habitat they built for him. Worth the visit - and it's within walking distance of the Box (as long as your're not a real fat arse).
And for those with some extra time, make the trip to N.O. to the WWII museum.
Others can fill you guys in on more things to see, places to go, good food, etc.
Oh, and check out some of the other boards on the site. I'm partial to the Movie/TV board myself but there are a lot to choose from. And posters from all over and fans of many teams who (mostly) play well together on the other boards. But stay away from the Poli board if you value your sanity.

It's Robertson. You'll know his name after this weekend.

thank you sir. that is certainly an in-depth break down of your team.
y'all are very balanced and my Tigers have their work cut out for them this week-end. I wish you luck.
ps. you should have come on down this week-end. spend a coupla days in NOLA and take in the Box. you've already been to Omaha.

your stadium is somewhat homer friendly.
Maybe, but not happening against Lange, Poche, or Newman.
