LB - trev Faulk . Didn’t he start and call the defense during his freshman year?

Since we are not including redshirt freshmen, the QB would be Herb Tyler. Like Johnson, didn't start until late in the season, but had big wins over Arkansas and Michigan State in Indy Bowl.

Up for Debate

WR- Kayshon Boutte(?) Maybe someone like Odell would compete here too

QB?

DL?

TE?

LB?

S?

Without reading all the comments, you need to rethink your choices.

RB - DALTON HILLIARD 1,269 Total Yards, 16 TDs

WR - Michael Clayton: 47-754-6 and 1 Rush TD (K. Boutte: 45-753-5)

FS - Laron Landry

OL - Andrew Whitworth

DB - Patrick Peterson, Derek Stingley (tied)

RB is only a 2 player debate:

Dalton Hilliard

Games 11 rushes 193 yards 901 avg. 4.7 TDs 11
Receiving: 31-368 avg. 11.9 TDs 5

224-1268 5.7 TDs 16

passing 1-0-0-0

Justin Vincent

Games 14 rushes 154 yards 1001 avg. 6.5 TDs 10
Receiving 8 yards 80 avg. 10.0 TDs 0

162-1081 6.7 TDs 10

Other

Kevin Faulk

Games 10 rushes 174 yards 852 avg. 4.9 TDs 6
Receiving 5 yards 86 avg. 17.2 TDs 1

174-938 avg. 5.2 TDs 7

Returner
2 yards 36 avg. 18.0 TDs 0

My vote:

Dalton Hilliard

Hands down

Great pull on Mark Roman but I’m seeing a different stat line.

Roman’s freshman year (1996)
TKLs- 58 (you had 74)
TFL- 2 (you had 6)
Sacks- 0 (you had 2)
INTs- 4
Passes defended- 6
(He also had a pick 6)

Outstanding freshman campaign for sure but either you misread the stat line or LSU.Net misprinted the stats I’m looking at.

The Honey Badger was well beyond Stingley. Not even close.

Wasn’t OBJ pretty bad his freshman year though? Or was it his sophomore slump that I’m thinking of?

I think you can basically say TM7 and Stingley played different positions. TM7 was a safety/CB hybrid. Stingley lined up as a traditional CB the whole time.

I think they can both be on the list

I went by his LSUsports.net bio LINK

But I see the season stats that you're referring to on the season stats page ( LINK). not sure why the discrepancy.

To my earlier point, his bowl stats as a freshman weren't included, but weren't necessarily great. 5 tackles, and a blocked FG if I'm reading this right.

No chance

Stingley was so much better as a true freshman. Peterson had some real growing pains

Pat had a way better sophomore year though

K Faulk was ready from minute 1
Hodson came in against aTm and never looked back

He ran all over #4 Florida as a freshman in 1982.
