Going into the 8th inning we had a 2 run lead and every arm in the bullpen available and we still managed to lose. We had a chance to win the game and win the series tonight and we didn’t use our 3 best available arms, Coleman, Guidry, or Herring. This loss was 100% on CJJ and was coaching malpractice

Not only lose. We gave up 7 runs to the worst team in the league when we needed 6 outs for a W

This was CJJ MO last year and it appears he still hasn’t learned.

Thatcher had looked great his last few outings. I don’t disagree with the decision to put him in.

That said, after tonight you cannot assume he can ever be reliable for you again this year in a high-leverage spot, despite his brief resurgence the past few weeks

How can you argue against going hurd there? He has been great doing that job for the last few weeks

Pawl had his coaching flaws. Every coach does. This one is definitely JJ's weakness as it follows him around all the time.

Playing for the sweep instead of just the series win.

Even though Hurd was awful today and may have been the same tomorrow I still would have wanted him to not pitch today and start on Sunday instead. Really frustrating game.

DUE TO INJURY THIS TEAM IS BELOW average. Face the facts. Wasn’t our year. We beat the hell out of States 5-6 bullpen guys. Their ace beat us tonight and their second best will hold us under ten and we walk in 8. This team doesn’t leave a regional. Of course the real reason no one wants to look at is we lost three starter quality pitchers to injury.

I was also hoping we were gonna start him tomorrow, but he has been nails out of the pen lately, so i get the move

I don’t disagree with going to him, but after the third guy gets on with no outs, you pull him. No way he should have been out there for the fourth hitter.

Hurd looked okay to good last week, Coleman and herring did not.
So coach went with Hurd. Obviously bad in retrospect.

Nobody, including Johnson, knows what we’re going to get out of any of those guys

This. He has a habit of leaving pitchers in WAY too long when everyone except JJ knows it.

Wasn’t Wes Johnson the pitching coach at MSU when they had all those UCL issues and they fired him mid season?

Most frustrating thing is how awful Cooper’s been yet Jay continues to use him like it’s 2021 and 2022 like he’s been serviceable and not awful.

Exactly
Just have no one that is shutdown like Edwards was. Zero reliable arms out of the pen.

Coleman went 1 IP and gave up 2 runs last week against Auburn and his velocity was way down. Overall he has 6 BB in 5.1 IP in conference play with an 8.44 ERA. Herring gave up 3 baserunners and 1 run without recording an out. The week before against Alabama he gave up 5 runs in 2.2 IP. His conference ERA is 6.28. What in any of those numbers should have engendered confidence tonight?

Hurd’s overall numbers aren’t good and clearly he hadn’t actually turned a corner, but he was by far the best arm out of the pen against Alabama and Auburn. He pitched 2.2 innings with no runs, no baserunners and 3 K. It’s easy to criticize in hindsight, but your assertion is not based in fact.

Coleman looked terrible last week. Velo was way down.

Herring has struggled to throw strikes.

Hurd was the right call. He's been dealing lately. Didn't work out tonight.
