Alexander was 6th on the team in tackles. He wasn't great, but how many teams have two great ILBs except for Bama?

Alexander was not good & we have 5 ILBs on the team this year that are more talented. But evidently that tells you nothing

Does that somehow take away from his play? Beckwith had to be moved from DE, Stephens has to be moved from safety. Thompson was a solid LBer.

No it doesn’t take away from his play, he played really well. You’re missing the point, as it spoke to the talent & numbers that he had to move & was able to basically start right away.

How ridiculous your statement that Miles left no talent at LB is.

Yea Donnie Alexander was dick Butkus & they didn’t have to move safeties to LB to improve the unit. Yap none of that happened

The passing game improved, which is what was causing huge meltdowns here.

The passing game improved based on what exactly? Total yards?

That speaks more to the current ILB talent we have on the roster than it does to Alexander. I've said it multiple times. Alexander was not great, but he was a serviceable SEC linebacker.

I don't think Thompson's move to LB had to do with need as much as it had to do with his frame. He was 221 pounds as a Junior when he was still at safety before his injury.

Nobody said Alexander was Dick Butkus, but funny you mention Butkus...

Here's a sportsnation article ranking the LB units in the SEC for 2017. LSU came in at #3.

He was literally 2 plays from a 11-1 season. And the Florida game was so freaking close it hurts. If burrow doesnt fumble in the redzone vs Florida we win. If the fumble in overtime vs atm is called correctly we win or the phantom PI against greedy isnt called we go to 8ot with another chance. This season was literally inches away from being in the playoffs at either the #3 or #4 spot. LSU had a hell of a year, it wasnt always the prettiest but we got their. With chassion not getting injured and having Phillips vs Florida I think we could have easily gone 11-1, but nothing could have controlled that. And that's not to mention all the suspensions and injuries on our oline for the course of the year. And we still managed to go 10-3. If we had a healthy oline and chassion all year things would have been incredible. 2019 we will be older, stronger, faster, and smarter on both sides of the ball. The defense should be better even though we lose white and greedy. And the offense loses no one of importance, and we gain 2 top RBs, so it should be significantly better. 2018 was a great season, but 2019 could be very very special

Still wouldn’t get O one

That said though, you’re right. You have to realize rankings are relative to the strength of CFB that year.

And that 07 team is regarded lower than other BCS Champs because of the two losses, as they probably should be.

So yeah, O’s top 10 ranking with 3 losses isn’t going to be as highly regarded as Miles’ when he got multiple top 10s with only 1 or 2 losses.

Yes. Particularly towards the end of the season.

2019 will kick arse.

I guess we should just ignore the fact that 2017 had:

Much Higher YPA
Higher Completion percentage
Higher Passer Rating
Same number of TDs
Fewer INTs

Those 350 yards on 90 more pass attempts is all that matters. Got it.

It’s like they know O isn’t a very good coach, so they need constant validation.

Every other day it’s “give o credit” “o has done a good job”

Let Miles lose 3 games and it was a whine fest from these same reetards.

I think LSU exceeded preseason expectations, considering the preseason strength of schedule was off.
The offense was terrible, ranked 100+ and once again we didn’t score a point against Bama, then lost to an overrated Florida team and an average A&M team.
Did we end on a high note? Yes, winning that bowl game was big moving forward.

I just don’t need to suck off O every day because he only lost 3 games. That’s not what I think our program is about.

Awesome

The passing game looked as good as. Have seen it at LSU over the past few games. It improved dramatically.

And will continue

Agree.

I can’t see the offense not improving with the addition of Emery and Burrow and our young WRs growing in the off-season.

He took over a smoldering dumpster fire 4 weeks into the 2016 season with several glaring personnel deficiencies and has improved this every season. LSU is also much more fun to watch!

Negligible.

But if you can't see the passing game was much improved over last year at the end of the season, not sure you'll ever get it.

I expect record numbers next year.

The passing game was much better in the last 1/3 of the season, and I think it will improve again next year.

Burrow will have another year in the system, Marshall, Chase and Jefferson should all take steps forward, our running game should improve and open up our passing game, and hopefully we can get our OL issues sorted out.

The OL is the biggest area where we need to improve. I don't really care if its lack of talent, lack of coaching, or the scheme, but it needs to improve.
