I really don’t understand the SECs obsession with rooting for the conference teams.

It goes back a ways. A long time ago there was no such thing as a playoff. So the sportswriters got to pick the national champion at the end of the season based on opinion. And since many sports writers happen to be alums of USC, Ohio State and other big schools those teams would win the beauty contest each year.
Our conference is so hard to play in because all the teams are basically better than the teams in other conferences. So our teams would finish with a loss almost every year even though we all knew they were better than an undefeated USC or ND team that didnt play anyone.
We would naturally root for our conference teams to win, just to try to show the world how much better the SEC is than any other conference. Now that we have a NC played on the field, you guys can see what weve been saying for years, the SEC is just better.

This is false. Those teams routinely beat the ever loving shite out of the SEC because they were better.
I think it was 1979 when one of the polls awarded the National Championship to Bama over USC. Both had one loss, and Bama’s was to USC. Bama was the only team that got respect, because they were the only good team from the SEC.
Almost every time LSU played Nebraska, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, we got our asses kicked. And Georgia, Tennessee and Florida weren’t faring better. The power swung to the SEC when we started hiring decent coaches instead of dumb rednecks.
There was a time when the SEC was underrated, and the BCS helped the SEC show it on the field.

I guess u right same with Bama on the 2017 season. They did not even win the sec yet they won the natty. Same with 2011 season. Bama did not win the sec yet they won they won the natty. There are several other teams over the last 100 years which Bama has a number of them and yet won the natty.

We all benefit with a strong SEC. it’s why we put teams in major bowls, and it’s why we have a monster TV deal. Which benefits all 14 conference schools.
And there’s the pride that comes with playing in the country’s toughest conference.
I always root for SEC teams. I don’t have tunnel vision with P&G glasses.

Personally, most of the time, I root against other sec teams. I’m a fan of 1 team not 14. Plus the sec has always tried to screw LSU over.
