Oklahoma State over Texas - Despite winning the Big 12 regular season, Ok St has an RPI of 19. Texas is at 7. Not sure if it drops Texas enough for LSU to jump them, but it could make it interesting. Also a hit to the RPI for Houston and Rice.

while it could help the RPI this has no impact on our top 8 or hosting chances. It is possible that the big 12 championship is a playoff game for a national seed. If TCU wins they lock that in, if Texas/OK state win they could get it, Texas less likely to get it. Big 12 doesn't get 2 top 8 seeds.

Southern Miss won, which is good for LSU.

I guess we want Texas and Rice to both lose again. Last scores I saw, they were both trailing by a run.

It will be amazing if LSU surges enough to get a national seed. I still think it's a possibility rather than a probability, but earlier this week the discussion was centered around whether LSU would even host a regional.

I'd say the Tigers are trending up

It's definitely been a change in perception of LSU. Like you said we've gone from bubble regional host to possible national seed.

Hell I'll go one step further and add that even with a loss Sunday LSU Still has a pretty Solid case over rice/OM.

How do/will the Sacred Heart games today effect LSU's RPI? That's a team that made a tour of Louisiana playing Tulane, Nicholls, LSU, and Southeastern. Them winning must help the RPI of all those teams which would help LSU's, right? Haha.

Well, helping RPI has an impact on our hosting chances. Agree that it doesn't free up a spot by eliminating the Big 12 because one of those teams WILL get a national seed. Oklahoma St winning is best for LSU simply because there's no way that they overtake LSU in RPI. Texas losing was also more detrimental to both Houston and Rice.

As it happens, LSU has now passed TCU, Rice and Houston and, as mentioned in the OP, they are close enough to Texas to make it interesting. If the win over Florida gives LSU enough of a bump tomorrow, they could be in the top 8 in RPI and VERY deserving of a National Seed.

I know all the talk is about getting a top 8 seed and it would be great, but I think the talk is fools gold. I've been wrong many times before, but I don't think LSU is getting a top 8 seed regardless of any outcome.

I just don't have trust in the powers that be, even if our resume stacks up nicely.

With a win sun vs floridA, I would be shocked if LSU does not get a national seed. We would be top 8 in RPI and every major poll, strong finish, tournament champs, Best conference which deserves 2 natty seeds to begin with...the only thing that was holding us back was RPI and we've now solved that problem. Not to mention passed all the other NS contenders in virtually every metric. (OM, Rice, etc)

If LSU wins Sunday, we're getting a national seed.

So you were around for 2011 too.

I was talking with Godfather1 about this earlier this week and told him that my prediction is that LSU wins the tourney, gets a Regional host, gets paired with ULL and they give ULL a shitty draw with a really strong #2 seed. ULL loses and the Super comes to the Box.

BUT, that said, they are on crack if they don't award 2 top 8 seeds to the SEC. If LSU beats Florida tomorrow, who is more deserving of that second national seed? It also doesn't hurt LSU's chances that we will all see LSU and Florida playing as the top 2 SEC teams tomorrow. It would be tough to see LSU beat the consensus lock from the SEC and then not give them that second bid.

I'd love to be wrong on this. Trust me. I just don't see the de facto LSU wins, top 8 seed. In fact, I think Ole Miss still has a better chance than LSU - which is silly.

You make a good point, ffishstik. How in the world could the toughest conference in America wind up with only one national seed?

Ole Miss probably did us a HUGE favor by pulling an Ole Miss and tanking in the tournament. Perhaps the same could be said for South Carolina and Vandy, too.

Hopefully, Okie State wins the B12 and USM can beat Rice tomorrow.

The funny thing is, this LSU team is so hot right now that I could see them going on the road and potentially winning a SR against anybody.

But, an Alex Box SR would be a lot more fun.

Agree 100%. But man, I don't trust the powers.

It's SO EASY for them to set up USL and LSU for a potential SR - and they will.

Rice just got a huge RPI boost by winning game 2 against ODU. Nearly .002 points.
