While Michigan St rarely utilizes zone defense, LSU must be prepared for it considering their struggles against Maryland.

I think the best way would be to put Javonte at the FT line to allow him to distribute from the inside out. He has the ability to finish over bigger defenders when attacking the rim. He sometimes gets tunnel vision and is vulnerable to charges while attacking so he must be aware that his job is to be a distributor

So your plan is to put a point guard at the free throw line to beat the zone?

Even though Michigan rarely uses zone, neither did Maryland. That said, I actually think going to a 4-out look might be a different approach that allows us to spread the court and drive baseline more.

Passing and penetration are good ways to beat a zone, so we gotta throw the book at Mich St.

Did we ever figure out the Zone against Maryland?

People are freaking out WAY too much about a zone defense. It really shows that most people are just watching March Madness, which is fine. LSU played against zone all season long. I would say at least half the games this season some type of zone was played against LSU

Everyone's talking about solving the zone.

Let's talk about defense: how will we rein in Sparty's 3 pt. attack?

We did not. I think if we went to the 4-out look and Naz and/or Days hit a couple 3's, then that will take them out of it pretty quick.

Smart seems to struggle in traffic with his passing.

MSU has only run zone on five possessions this year. They have 100% confidence in their man to man. Did UK or TN ever go to zone against us this year? Not sure?

Coach Armstrong was just on OTB, said if Mich St goes zone that’s a good sign that we’re beating them 1on 1. Also said they absolutely have practiced it, and have a plan if it does happen, but it’s just not something State resorts to.

Probably more that half. Once it was noticed we struggled against it, just about every team mixed it in a little.

That said, I don't expect Michigan State to play much of it. I'm sure they will mix it in a little. There isn't some magic formula for beating it (like sticking a PG in the middle of it), but it will be nothing we haven't seen over and over again all season.

we need to do something we haven't been great at all season: hit threes

Nailed it.

They will play a zone probably just under one condition. If they are having no success stopping us. If we have the lead, are taking it to them on offense, and they want to try to switch it up to go on a little run.

You beat a zone by moving the ball and hitting open looks as the defense tries to transition. If you can't hit open looks, you've got problems against a zone.

I’m extremely happy to know that you have no part in LSU’s gameplan. According to your analysis, we’d lose by 20+

Michigan State prides itself on playing great man defense, I highly doubt they play zone unless Tremont is eating Winston up. We do have a several mismatches in our favor IMO though.

You're correct, and it gave us fits the entire damn year.

let mays attach the middle of the zone, and give days a few more minutes to stretch the floor. Also when they go zone play Water on the wing as well.
